Hello,

I'm considering a 5906 for myself. I like the heft and ergonomics, but the stock trigger leaves much to be desired. My friend owns one that he dry-fired the living hell out of and it is noticeably smoother, but still has an extremely long and heavy DA pull and seems to have quite a bit of creep and slack in the SA pull, not to mention the heavy break.

Any remedies for this? Would a trigger job be a prudent first investment, or is there a better option?

Thanks!

One positive note about that series of S&W auto pistols, is that they have a nice & sweet, ultra short reset. If you find that you're just not getting used to the 5906's trigger then try some different springs from Wolff possibly?

A lower power hammer spring will reduce the trigger pull (DA and SA) but can result in light hits on the primer. Best to get a kit with several springs (Wolff) and experiment. The hammer spring is a snap to change. A lighter trigger spring will also reduce the pull but it is a bitch to replace. This model S&W is not that easy to disassemble.

Heh, one thing this gun does not have is a light primer strike. It's eroding holes into the "primers" on snap caps. Looks pretty neat, actually...

The S&W 5906 is built like a tank and will digest an ything you feed it. The DA trigger is not it's strong point but as a previous poster popinted out is does have a nice short reset. Try using it in IDPA or USPSA matches to become familiar with the trigger and it will serve you well for a long time.
