My 627 was having misfires in DA so I sent it off to S&W for them to have a look. Misfires are obviously bad though I'm not overjoyed with how it feels now.

The repair sheet says they replaced the strain screw and firing pin and adjusted it per factory spec. Ok, that's good.

The issue is the trigger doesn't feel as good in either mode. The DA has gotten a fair bit heavier though it's still smooth and the SA feels quite a bit different. Before, it had the slightest bit of takeup, then a nice crisp break and then very little over travel. Now, it has no takeup and breaks with just a bit of pressure on the trigger and then has more overtravel than I'd like.

Is there anything I can do to get it back the way it was but avoid misfires or do I have to bring it to a gunsmith?

You really don't want to mess with the SA sear.

For the DA
You can replace the mainspring and rebound springs to a lighter weight.
you can polish all the internals, reshape parts.
replace the firing pin with a longer one
but unless you know what you are doing then its best to take it to a gunsmith

The 627 should be able to fire down to around 7lbs reliably with work. 4lbs with some more work and federal primers

I had a smith work over my 625. It is a thing of beauty, but does require Federal primers to run reliably. The smith will work with you if you want it to work with factory ammo etc.
His name is Mike Carmoney, and is out of IA. I highly recommend his work.(CARMONEY4@aol.com). Many references etc can be found on brianenos.com - he has a dealer classified section for his smith work.
