s&w 908s are they good guns?

You may know much of this information, already, so ignore parts of my response as necessary.

The Smith & Wesson third generation guns generally have a pretty good reputation for accuracy and reliability. One big disadvantage is the slide-mounted safety/decocker. It is easy to accidentally put the gun on safe while cycling the slide during an emergency reload. Also, the safety is difficult to reach with your strong hand thumb while maintaining a good grip, so many who carry a third gen carry it decocked, safety off.

Like all DA/SA guns, it has a long, hard double action trigger for the first shot, but follow up shots are a short, light single action trigger. It takes a fair bit of practice to manage that transition.

Personally, I'd rather have a striker-fired gun like a Glock or M&P. But I'm guessing a 908 is cheaper.

Iv had the glock and the m&p. They are both fine guns. At one point i had a sig 239 I loved the D/A S/A but the thing rusted like a old boat anchor.

The one major issue I did have with the m&p was the mag release. Too touchy for me. The way I carry.

The one gun I regret selling as weird as this sound was the s&w40ve. Do you think the 908 is better than the sigma line

The 239 is a decent gun. I would have just had the slide refinished with something like Cerakote. I would take a 239 over a S&W third generation, if only because of the slide mounted safety. I think slide-mounted safeties just suck.

Absolutely. Lots of people had reliability problems with Sigma .40s. I haven't heard of the same issues with the third generation S&Ws.

Sorry, I've got no idea on the values. You might check on smith-wessonforum.com for values on the 649.

they are good guns, and relatively cheap. the 908 is the economy version of another model which means it came with plastic sights and another couple of small differences. Generally it came in blued finish or black unlike the regular ones which were stainless.

I have a 6906 and i wouldnt think twice about grabbing another one 3rd gen. Im in the process of saving and finding a 4516.

The 908 was part of the value line 3rd gen. S&W guns. It is a 9 round light weight 3.5 inch barrel gun. I have carried one for years. You will have to get comfortable with the double single action. My gun has an auto decocker I don’t have to think about the safety once the safety lever is set the hammer drops and the safety lever pops back up to the firing position. This gun cost me $200.00 used and has been completely reliable. This is the gun I practice with and shoot all the time and carry. You don't want to carry an expensive gun as a protection gun.
