One of the sites I sometimes visit is Pistol-training.com. One thing they did over there was run a S&W through the paces.

The final tally is:

62,333 rounds,2 stoppages, 0 malfunctions, 3 parts breakages. Of particular interest is they did what one could consider minimal maintenance on it.

He gives a breakdown week by week for about 34 weeks.

Hard to gauge if this is what we can consider from the M&P or just hand selection from S&W (this was fully endorsed by S&W who supplied the gun). As a side note Todd Greene did state he would be happy to put a Glock through the test if they supplied the pistol and a sponsor for the ammo.

Consumer Reports probably isn't popular on this board but there's a reason they actually buy their test cars off of dealer lots.

My M&P9 wouldn't reliably feed either Remington UMC or Blazer aluminum. It was better after I got it back from S&W but I wasn't too impressed.

If anyone would like to fund the "MassMark M&P 45 Challenge" please send me a PM. I figure I'll need an M&P 45 bought at random and 100,000 rounds of .45ACP. I will shoot the gun until it fails using only the most basic maintenance. Check, MO, Cash, GearPay or PayPal is just fine...[wink]

Together we can make a difference - send your check today! [grin]

Was it one of the first releases of the M&P or recent production? Was talking with MassMark and he was saying the very early ones had problems, but the new ones are pretty good.

I bought it in Nov. of 2006. I think the model had been out for a year or so at that point. It was probably a statistical anomaly and it fed higher power rounds just fine.

*nods* Was curious is all. The M&P line is one me and the wife are seriously going to take a look at, along with Glock.

Have to admit, even if the gun was hand picked the fact it held up so much with so little maintenance is something to take into consideration.

Its a pretty amazing test overall. The test summary is very misleading however.

The 2 stopages were due to improper lubrication.

The 3 parts failures were:
+ trigger spring - Past due for replacement (37K rounds thru it, 7500 rounds without cleaning at that point)
+ Slide Catch - it just broke, gun was still fully functional
+ Crack in slide - Engineers said it was still safe to shoot Lawyers said not, gun was still functional 62,333 rounds thru it

I own one so I'm biased :)

Well, ToddG from Pistol-Training.com got a custom 9mm out.

$619 + FFL transfer fee gets you:

Full Sized M&P 9mm
Performance Center Sear ($125 value)
Warren 2-Dot Tritium Night Sights ($115 value + install if don't have tools etc)
Spare Magazine (Currently can get as low as $29 BUT they will be increasing to about $40)

Feedback from some is that PC Sear w/ Mass trigger gives 6.5lb trigger that is actually pretty good etc so some may not even need to have a trigger job done.

Price out seperate about $764 based on $489 M&P.

Only 250 made and is a special run by S&W itself so it could very well be considered a collectors item from S&W. Got mine on order and will post pics + range report when I get it.

And the time frame these getting in is they hope 60-90 days if all goes well and no big LEO contract comes in etc. Got to make clear this is the target date of S&W of when they want/hope/aim to have it complete and not a firm date. May be sooner, may be longer.

Over 60,000 rounds with that amount of breakage is actually pretty good. I mean seriuosly how many of us will actually put over 60,000 rounds through our pistols? And if your like myself and clean and maintain after every trip to the range it will most likely last even longer.

Its 60,000 rnds in like 6 months or something. I am looking forward to my M&P now.

That's funny as mine has swallowed a couple thousand rounds of UMC without a problem but puked with S&B (when new, I haven't retested that brand again).

There was a similar test on mp-pistol.com, but I have not kept up with it.
He was at maybe 50k rounds 6 months ago, and I think he had cleaned the gun twice.

The only hiccup I've had with mine involved the aluminum cased Blazer - it was an FTF. It was also during the gun's break-in period so who knows why.

Since it's been fed a diet of WWB and UMC with the occasional Federal JHP with no problems at all. When I do my part, the gun delivers equally with all three.

I put 100 rounds of Winchester white box through mine, and another 100 rounds of Speer Gold Dot ( My prefered defencive ammo), with no issues. Thats what I normally do if I run 200 rounds through a pistol without a hicup when its brand new not broken in. I am sure 500 to 1000 rounds down the road I will see the same results. And willing to trust the weapon.

I did something similar. I shot 50 of Hydrashock through it then 100 WWB. Then I tried a few others to see what it liked (basically I bought one of each at FS) and the only issue I had was with the Blazer so I don't use that anymore. I've put about 500 through it since - WWB and UMC - with no problems at all.

the link is the same guy who did it, and the offer I posted was for a special run of M&P's decked out similar to the gun he used.
