Hello all, just bought a S&W M&P 9mm for home defense. Two questions:

1. Does it harm the gun in any way to perform dry fire drills on a regular basis?

2. Just bought some JHP +P ammo for home defense. The manual doesn't explicitly say not to use it, but hinted that it may cause problems. Any concerns using +P in this gun? Obviously most of the rounds through the gun will be FMJ at the range, but always want to be ready for the unthinkable.

Thanks

Go nuts with the dryfire. I put hundreds of presses on mine with no issues. Plus if you break something, it'll give you an excuse to drop-in one of those wonderful Apex trigger kits.

I also ran plenty of +P ammo through mine. You might want to get a heavier recoil spring if you plan to shoot more +P and standard pressure, but you won't harm the gun.

Happy shooting!

No, S&W says dry fire is safe and the gun is rated for +P ammo but regular use will cause it to wear faster. So the use of +P for SD ammo and the occasional range trip is fine. Use regular ammo for your usual range visits.

Is there anyone close to taunton with an MP 9 ? I need to take a couple measurements on an internal piece. Need to look at the trigger bar.

Ill drive to you, preferably within 30-40 miles.

Pm me please.

Jmacy, it wont hurt the firearm if you dry fire it.
