I had a model 36, sold it and would like to get another. I found this one that I like and the grips appear to be larger than the ones I have seen. I like it. Are all model 36's the same frame size and this gun just has larger grips ? If so does that mean these larger grips can be put on any model 36 ? Thanks

The Model 36 and it's predecessor, the ".38 Chief's Special Pre-Model 36" were all built on the j-frame. Very early versions (Baby Chiefs) had the I-frame grip but this was soon changed. The 2" Model 36s are round butts. The grips in your attached picture are larger than normal, perhaps for someone who needed "more grip" to effectively shoot this firearm. It's difficult to tell from this pic if these grips were meant to be a "round butt to square butt" configuration or just square butt grips put on the gun.

Hope this helps a little.

Yes, thank you. Just noticed a model 36 in the classifieds and the ad says oversized grips. Thanks again for the reply.

The picture shows j-frame Target stocks/grips. The model 36s may have a round butt (RB) or a square butt(SB). The gun in the picture looks to be an SB, but as Frosty correctly said, it may be SB grips on a RB gun.

Thanks for all reply's. Took the target grips from my SW model 66 and put them on my SW 10-7. Fit nice. I like the larger grip look.
