I just bought a used Smith and Wesson Model 41, one of the newer models with the tapped barrel on top. After I got it home, I went to field strip it. I locked the slide back with the magazine removed and then snapped/rotated the trigger guard down. The next step is to "lift the barrel off of the slide". Well, with a firm grasp and a fair amount of upward/forward force, I cannot get the barrel to budge a bit. Do you think the barrel could be stuck on the slide?

No. I can't really remember correctly, and it's late. But I think you've got to pull back first and then up.

Give the barrel a little wiggle. Grab the barrel just behind the front sight with your right hand and the grip with your left. Push the barrel back and start to tip the muzzle down. The barrel should pop right up and off of the frame.

Not unusual to tap the barrel with a soft mallet. If the barrel has not been remover in a long time it just may be frozen in place with "crud" a non scientific term. Greg

Thanks Greg! I had to give it a few good whacks on the bottom of the barrel in the front (side where the barrel exits). It was really stuck hard, but then it just came right out!
