Talk to me about the model 99, I have an opportunity to purchase one at a low price. I fired it today a few times and liked the feel, which is more then I can say for other .40cals I've shot.

It has the Walther designed lower with the funky mag release but for the price I could get used to it.

I've been wanting to pick up a .40 to add to my arsenal...I'm considering this for the price.

Anyone have one? Thoughts, good, bad or indifferent...

Thanks!

Stick with the 9mm version. The .40 version is way too flippy for my taste.

If you have a .40 fetish, stick with a Glock or an M&P, you'll be much happier.

I have an SW99 in 9mm and like it a lot. I got a compact in .40 in June, but sold it when I found a compact P99 in 9. The cost difference in ammo was too much. The feel of the .40 was fine for me, even as a compact. I also got a P22, so mag release is all the same. I like the smaller paddle of the S&W mag release better than the Walther. And you will get used to it. I release with my middle finger, not thumb.

I have had the midsize and P22 since 2004 and have thousands of rounds through both without any issues at all. I shoot WWB for practice and federal Hydra-Shok for carry. I don't think there are any hi-cap mags available for the .40, if that matters to you.

Also not a lot of aftermarket support. For a range holster, a Fobus paddle for a Glock works (GL1). Don Hume has a nice leather J.I.T. Slide (99N) and IWB holster (H715MS No. 36-4) that I use. The Blackhawk Serpa for the P99 will work with a little bit of modifying, but very minor.

Thanks for the input guys, I have 2 9mm already and was looking to add a .40 to my collection. I only asked about the SW99 because my buddy has one to sell for cheap, cheaper then any glock or m&p I could get.

I like how it felt and shot, pretty comfy compared to other .40's I've shot.

Thanks for the input, still thinking

I have one in .40 and it's been nothing but reliable for the ~3yrs I've owned it. I didn't love the factory trigger so I did the Glock spring swap mod, which made a huge difference. I agree with drgrant's "flippy" comment, but once you'll get used to it with some practice.

If I had to choose between a Glock 22 and the SW99, I would certainly choose the Glock... but for the price difference an SW99 is certainly a valid option.

Get the real Walther P99. I have one (in 9mm) and would not consider the S&W Version. But that's me...

The mag release to me is a non issue, I kind of like it.

And while I think its a great gun, I would not like the trigger if I had to use it for say an IDPA. But its a good paper punching gun.

I put about 100 rounds through it today, I was pretty accurate with it, I feel it takes the recoil well for a polymer frame, almost better then my SR9.

Glad to have a .40 in the collection.
