A buddy of mine in NH recently scored a pinned & recessed model 28-2 w/adj sights.
I've handled and shot many model 27's, and can't figure out how this is different enough from a 27 to merit the name designation as a different model. They're both N frame .357's. Even a change as radical as square butt/round butt frames doesn't rate a model name change.

The M28 was a bargain-basement version of the M27. I think cops wanted a gun that good but without the frills, a real working gun.

Check out stevespages.com-- all the manuals are there First page of both manuals give the specs.

Different front sights, finishes, barrel length availability etc.

Cosmetic differences only.

There was a 27 in the classifieds last I looked. I have a "pre-28" or I'd definitely be interested.

The 27's are more finely fit and finished. Higher polish, better bluiong, a checkered top strap and rib. The 28's were plain jane versions with less polishing , a duller blue and a matt top strap. Both do equally well on the firing line.
