I'm considering buying 15-22 and have a question about it's stock (MA model ). Is it a standard collapsible stock that can be repinned at different LOP or something proprietary that can't be adjusted ?

It is pinned, and can be drilled out. Be careful, though, as the 'buffer tube' is part of the lower, if I remember correctly.

Got it in 1. Nice work TheRoland.

He does remember correctly, so be careful... the buffer tube isn't replaceable, it's a part of the lower.

I actually enquired about this at my local shop, and the guy there said its a rollpin that can be tapped out-he said its a quite common thing for people to do. This is something that I am looking to get as well, and I like the stock completely collapsed as well.

oldsoldier: If you're going to tap out the rollpin (which is completely possible) just be sure to re-pin it when you've got it at the length you like.
Since the "buffer tube" is plastic, it should be pretty simple, just a small drill bit, or even just heating the rollpin should get you where you want to be.

(buffer tube in quotes, because it's really just a piece of plastic, I guess "stock tube" would be more accurate in this case)

However during the 5 minutes or so the pin is removed, you will be in possession of an "assault rifle" since the stock will be collapsible. Make sure you do this stock mod out of state or you'll be a felon...assuming anyone catches you.

I'll remove the pistol grip before I'll start unpinning the stock so I'll still be AWB compliant.

Let us know how it goes for you. I'd like to do this too for when my wife wants to shoot it. I asked S&W and they had no advice what so ever.

Sorry for reviving this thread from the dead.

I bought a new MP15-22 the other day, and noticed the stock does NOT rattle at all. I would not be surprised if the stocks were now being glued...

I would like to hear from other owners on their experiences before I venture into an impossible task..

Thanks!

drill it out. repin. it took me 5 min and i was going slooooow. i'd take a pic but i don't feel like going upstairs to the safe. my mom is cooking and i haven't taken out the garbage today. [laugh]

The stock used on the Mass M&P 15's are not real collapsible stocks. They are made special for S&W to look like a M4 collapsible stock. These stocks have no detent holes and the pin is blind. You would be better off with a M4 collapsible stock they are inexpensive and can be pinned at any of the detent lengths. We have this type of stock in stock for $50.00 and will do the pinning for $15.00.

Unless things have changed, those stocks come with the M&P 15's but the 15 22's have an adjustable "stock" (actually part of the lower) that can be drilled out an re-positioned.

I was able to re adjust mine and re pin it in about 10 minutes using the S&W stock that was on the gun.
