S & W MP 15 SPORT???

Hi Ken - it appears to be Smith and Wesson's version of the "Sportical" - a no frills AR. I only get that hint by looking at the barrel and receiver. The barrel is a 1:8 and appears to be blued and the receiver has no dustcover or forward assist. I do dig S&W's one-piece receiver. With a $799 price tag, it should be less at an FFL, so seems like a good value to get you in the game...

I picked up a M&P 15 Sport a few weeks ago and am very happy, it's my 1st rifle and I found it easy to clean and manage after reading the instructions. I put about 200 rounds of cheapo range ammo through it with no issues besides an odd safety switch quirk that sometimes requires a you to pull the charging handle before you can put the run on Safe. The black finish also seems to scratch a little bit easily but that's just as likely to be my fault. Over all the rifle is a hoot and hitting the target was almost too easy at an indoor range, now just have to get out to a 200 yard range and see what she can do!

If you haven't already made your decision maybe Manchester Firing Line has one to rent....

Does anyone know what the specific difference is between the ORC and the Sport models?

The barrel on the sport is finished in Melanite, the ORC is black anodized, the sport has adj. sites, the ORC has no sights, no dust cover or the forward assist on the Sport, which we really don't need.

The best part is retail should be well below $700.00. S&W retail has it listed at 739.00, your local dealer should kill that price.

I have sport in my ar collection and its a great shooting rifle the 5r rifling rocks allmost no copper fouling after many many hundreds of rounds and is easy to clean. I've had no problems at all with the rifle its a solid and great preforming ar for $650.00 out the door. I believe there really is no need for a dust cover and forward assist on Ar unless its going to be a abused duty rifle ( the sport has a mil-spect carrier and if you need to assist the bolt forward there is a indent on the right side so you can use your thumb to push the bolt forward ) and as for accuracy I was blowing up lemons at 200 yards last time i took it out

Ordered one of these on tax-free day, now I just have to wait for it to come in. Tom Petty had it right, the waiting is the hardest part!

I can't think of a firearm that I've seen which doesn't require it be cocked to switch on the safety.

Ah Ha!

Thank you mike93lx , I just realized what was going on there with the safety, I was only having the issue with snap caps and now see that it was due to Me not pulling the charging handle back far enough to re cock the rifle between "snaps". I thought it was cocked but it wasn't. Now that I see my mistake I just went through a few drills with no probs what so ever. I guess I really am a newbie at this stuff [thinking]. Thanks for your reply, I've only been an NES Member for a week or so but I think my membership just paid for itself a few times over!

Finally got mine in today, heading to the range later this afternoon to put it through its paces!

where did you order it? did it come in yet? i also ordered one on tax free day at four seasons and im still waiting, its been 6 weeks. starting to get pretty PO that they cant even give me an idea as to when it will be in

I got it at Blue Northern, and it came in about a week ago. They don't normally carry it, so on August 2nd I told them I wanted to buy one on tax-free day so they could put one on order. The Sport has been selling very well from what I can tell, and there's no way for FS or any other store to know exactly when the shipments will come or how many they'll get. Any estimate they gave you would be a guess at best. Just be patient and they'll get yours to you as soon as they can. Believe me, I know it's hard to wait, but the wait will be worth it!

S&W bumped the MSRP from $709 to $739, which probably means it'll be hard to get one for $600. I paid $660 for mine, and I don't regret it one bit. Shot it a bunch at the GOAL shoot today and it's great. North Shore is advertising them for $620.

After trying one of these at the GOAL shoot today, this just jumped to the number 1 spot on the must have list. Hopefully picking one up next week.

Thank you good sir! I have a feeling I am going to have a new range toy very soon.

I invested a $150 into mine I swaped the upper reciever for an A3 upper, threw on an extended carbine handguard rail and I also installed some parts that i had kicking around a vltor stock, magpul grip , rail covers, yhm phantom brake, and flash light mount it is one bad looking mofo now. I am using the stock sport upper for a 6.5 varminit/coyote upper build which I think the shaved upper would look much better on.
