Savage Axis/Edge bolt question

I just picked up a Savage Axis in .223 and I have a question about the bolt. When I pull the bolt up there seems to be a hitch or catch about 2/3rds of the way up. Is this normal?

I don't know about that particular bolt action, but most have what is called primary extraction, where a surface at the base of the bolt handle hits an angled piece of the rear portion of the action. The upward movement of the bolt also include a small reward movement that is called primary extraction.
