Does anyone have any recommendations for sources on the history of Savage and Stevens? Books, web pages, videos, old magazine articles - anything you've got.

Researching to satisfy idle curiosity - grew up in Westfield and always knew Savage was there, but they weren't talked about a lot. Ran across a post that said Stevens was sold to New England Westinghouse to make Russian contract Mosins and then was sold back to Savage post war and felt like that was something I should have known already.

Thank you

Two seperate companies they merged like 1920s

1892/93 Arthur Savage patents the rifle. 1894 builds a few prototypes and if you see one you are looking at $. Browning is the main designer. 1894 Savage Arms formed.

1915 Savage Arms aquired by Driggs-Seabury

1920 Savage Arms buys Stevens Arms

1930 Savage Arms buys A H Fox

1946 Savage Arms moves to the Stevens Arms building in Chicopee Falls as they considered it a better facility

1960 Savage Arms moves to Westfield

Lot of struggles and take overs but in 1995 Coburn and partners re-acquire Savage.

Call them and you can check out their museum. There’s all kinds of cool stuff in there from firearms to other things they’ve manufactured all kinds of old literature. It’s really cool.

They did fire me three months ago….

It’s also under a new ownership a little less than a year ago as well.
