Republicans on the Tennessee House Education Administration Committee voted Wednesday to advance legislation allowing armed teachers for classroom defense in response to the March 27, 2023, shooting at a Christian school.

“Prior the passage of the legislation, Moms Demand Action’s Shannon Watts tweeted that her group was “out in force” to oppose the “deadly policy” of arming teachers for classroom defense.

Watts also claimed, “Guns in schools don’t make anyone safer – especially Black students. Teachers aren’t sharpshooters; they should never be asked to shoot students (most school shooters are students). Lawmakers must pass policies to keep guns out of schools BEFORE violence occurs.”

One can only thank God that the Headmaster, Teacher and Janitor shot in Nashville were unarmed? Aside from the fact that no student has ever been accidentally shot by armed teachers/staff/SROs in the decades that they’ve been armed in schools in many states, isn’t worth the risk? Nashville was probably the best possible case of a response at a school with no armed teachers/staff/SROs present and six died in minutes. At worst, one or two innocents might get caught in crossfire, maybe even killed by a “good guy with a gun" - shit happens. But the good guy won’t stand over downed teachers & kids and execute them before the cops interven.

Sure, it’s preferable that bad guys don’t bring guns to schools but what new laws will stop that? MOMS is so committed to their losing strategy that they’re willing to let kids die to see it implemented.

Wait , what ?
Did Twatts just imply that teachers would be running around shooting black kids if they were armed ?
Because it sure sounded like like she was implying that armed teachers would be running around shooting black kids.
