I am going to pick up a mount for my M1A and was trying to think what scope to get for it. I was thinking of a 3-9 40 but wonder about a 4-12 either 40 or 50

This is mostly for target shooting at 100 and 200 yards

any thoughts?

I've been thinking about scoping my M1A also. For a 3-9, the Super Sniper looks like a great buy.

You also need to consider mounts and I'd probably go with the Bassett.

When I got mine way back before the changes in MA I got the Springfield mount that you could order with the rifle. It works great but you have to mark the zero point on the screw as it does loosen over time. I have a variable 6-30x variable on it and it is way too much IMHO. 3-9 looks great to me.

2 piece basset mount is my preference as it seems to allow for a slightly lower mount height YMMV

On an M1A you're already fighting with "chin weld" for any scope......anything you can do to reduce the altitude of that scope is a big help.

Scope mounts seem to be rather critical with the M 14. I would do a lot of research before I bought one.

I bought an ARMS mount. Works great, but to be honest, the iron sights are just as accurate and way more practical.

I run 3 SWFA SS on 3 of my riffles and I have to say they are AMAZING.

I was introduced to them by another operator while I was in country one time. Gave one a try it took a beating and never failed in any way.
