I have two rifles that need scopes, a Ruger 10/22 .22 rimfire and a Remington 700 .308. I would like a scope for 50 feet to 100 yards for the 10/22 and would like a scope for 50 yards to possibly 600 yard for the 308. I do have a Mueller APT that sits on my Remington 700 right now.

I think the APT could be perfect for the 10/22 since it has a parallax setting down to 10 yards. What I am challenged with it was is a good scope for the .308. I know you can spend thousands on a scope, but would the Mueller 8-32×44 Side Focus be good enough for an entry-level target rifle? Is 32x too much magnification? I assume that the wider the range of magnification, the lower the quality of the optics.

I use the BSA sweet 22 on my Rugers and it is a pretty good scope for the money. It has the distance adjustment that works well. They have several different versions, some have the parallax adjustments as well.
I use mine for targets from 25 yards out to 125 yards.
