Very scary stuff, the driver got lucky that the amateur robber didn't stay in front of the car or draw a weapon on him sooner than he did, if that's what he was reaching in his pocket for. Rolling down the passenger window diverted him to that side of the car. Lucky that he didn't catch some young woman or family in his little noose.

IIRC, recording video is fine, it's when you get to recording audio that Mass is a 2 party state. If you don't inform them, you could / will run afoul of wiretapping laws

Yeah, a cop knowing he's being recorded will most likely be on better behavior. You can assume the cops know and look for dash cams, so just turning and point it at him before he gets up to your car might not be the best idea, the cop will just play dumb.
I'm thinking about getting one of these now for myself and gf.
