I have taken three classes with Shivworks, all of which involved extreme close quarters shooting (shooting someone with a sim gun while ground fighting, fighting inside a car, grappling) and never had this happen. The sim guns are blowback but I never had a situation where I shot someone at extreme close range with the gun actually pressed against them. Multiple evolutions where I was BJJ ground fighting or upright grappling and shot someone wtih the sim gun, never had a problem getting enough space so the gun wasn't pressed against them. Just don't shove the pistol into someone hard and expect it to shoot and you will be fine. I even did some striking with an actual pistol (glock 26), zero problems shooting after.
