so i put about 100 rounds through a glock 22 today and i must say i was truly impressed! no other pistol has fit my hand quite as well or had such a smooth trigger pull! the trigger pull was just right not too heavy or too soft! well no the dilemma! I would love to make this my first pistol (20 days into my wait for ltc-a) but i dont know if i want to buy a used police pistol! are there issues i can expect if i buy a glock with a lot of rounds thru it? also someone suggested a smith and wesson sigma saying its a glock knock off but how close is it because i have shot an m and p and it was nowhere near as nice as the glock! well any advise would be appreciated! thanks

Do not let anyone tell you the Sigma is comparable to the Glock. The Sigma MA triggers are horrible. The M&P is a huge step up from the Sigma IMO.

Buy a Glock, have someone here who is an armorer and close look it over and replace anything that needs it. Most you maybe will need is a couple springs and an extractor, cheap money.

exploding glocks? oh my! my glock22 has countless rounds thru it and its never misfired, stovepiped or done anything i didnt want it to do. keep in mind these are probably the most widely used & abused handguns in the world.

just be aware that glocks have a tendency to explode, dude. you're going along all hard hitting and stuff for like 50k rounds, and then suddenly the bitch blows your hand off. if you're married, then it's not an issue because you already know how that works.

[laugh]

If you're lucky, though....you'll lose the finger with the scar from the ring [laugh]

lets get the Glock KB in the .40 calibers out in the open.

have the G22's blown up... yes they have, and since I personally own 3 G22's, and have read everything I could get my hands on about it here is my opinion as to the cause.

IMHO, and that of others that know a lot more than I, 99.99% of G22's will never have a problem, and the ones that do have catastrophic failures due to the dreaded KaBoom are the result of bullet setback into the casing, resulting in over pressurization of the round, in a barrel that does not fully support the casing.

The setback is the result of 2 things, the steep feed angle and people ejecting a chambered round and putting it back in the top of a magazine to be chambered again. The repeated ejection and rechambering will push the bullet back in the casing, resulting in things going boom. I will not chamber the same round more than a couple of times before I toss it in the range ammo jar.

If you are aware that many people suspect the cause of the KB is preventable, and you don't chamber the same round multiple times, it is a nice reliable gun that is affordable in most states, and the Glock reputation for service beats many manufacturers.

I have owned multiple Glocks in 9 and .40, in all frame sizes, and I have never had a problem with any of them. I own 3 Glock model 22's at the moment and don't hesitate to use one as my SHTF gun.

ymmv

The real "Achille's" heel of the Glock design is that it is possible for the gun to fire out of battery. This gives the case even less support and invites disaster. As long as the gun is kept clean and fed quality ammo (hard cast lead reloads are fine) this problem can be avoided. I have run somewhere between 40 and 50 thousand lead reloads through three Glocks 21,22, and 24L with no problems.

Friends don't let friends carry Sigma's.

You've fired a glock, now go shoot a 1911 before making a decision.

(not trying to re-start the whole Glock vs thing...) Just sayin...

Most of the complaints I have heard about Glock is the angle of the handle and the feel of the trigger. People that have shot a lot of different guns complain that the angle is too steep with the Glock and they shoot high because of it, or it just does not feel right. I had the same problem at first because for years I only shot the berretta 9mm when I was in the Army. If you like the Glock's design and it feels right to you, go for it. There are many quality guns on the market and Glock is definately one of them. Great bang for the buck.

Congrats on your first time shooting one, I doubt it'll be the last! I did lots of research before my first buy last week (G19), I also shot an M&P and an H&K USP but I kept coming back to Glock. I'm very happy with the purchase so far.

And a used police pistol isn't really a bad thing, many are in very nice shape with the only wear being cosmetic from being holstered so much. I personally bought a Gen 2 which the condition of is almost new.

Married dudes lose something more important than a hand.

I'm going to argue that you can't truly appreciate a 1911 until you've shot a whole bunch of other pistols- it's like whiskey- most don't appreciate good whiskey the first time they try it. Glocks are great. The whole 1911 v Glock debate is dumb- they're two different tools each with pros and cons.

Indeed. Apples and oranges of a sort. I'm not gonna knock anyone's carry choice (except for the Sigma [wink] ), its all about personal preferences. For me, its the grip angle and the looooong trigger pull on the Glock. I know they can be cleaned up somewhat with different connectors, but I mostly prefer the crisp trigger on my 1911's.

I actually agree with you but I didn't appreciate just how ergonomic a 1911 is until shooting a lot or other guns. That being said, it's a 100 y/o design with some potential issues as an SD gun (small mag, ammo sensitive etc). The best thing i can say for a Glock is they go bang every time. They're not the ubergun many of the fanbois claim, but they're damned close.

BTW my carry piece is a 1911 ES

It's settled my first pistol will be a glock I'm sure I'll add many more over the years but I can't believe how good it felt! The funny part is I had zero intention to shoot it! asked for the h and k but it was broken was going to shoot another m and p but it failed to fire, had just been reassembled looks like someone skipped a step! Lol I will definitely try a 1911 when the opportunity presents itself! Thanks for the advise!

Haverhill @ HHRG weekends or later evenings if I am around- you can fire my S&W 1911PD if you want - pm me if interested.

I like Glocks, have not bought one yet. I have a Springfield XD that is a great gun. I had an H&K that I should have never parted with but that is life and now I shoot my XD and 1911PD.

I do like glocks , i shot the 19 and it was the hardest decision to pick the usp compact 9mm over it, but for me , while i didnt mind the grip, cause that can be changed. The angle of the grip and the tough slide pull i couldnt do . I could pull the usp slide with two fingers. It fit well for my thumbs forward grip i have to admit. Better than the hk with its safety but im getting that removed and its being turned into a LEM. The pointability and being able to hold the hammer down while holstering of the usp compact did it for me and my accuracy of me shooting tighter groupings sold me on it. Though i woudnt mind going after a glock for my second gun.

Thanks for the offer!!! I will definitely pm you next time I'm going to be in that area!! And I still hope to try the h and k once they have it available for rental! I just don't know if it's going to be able to compete! Especially since I don't really care for the double action/single action triggers like the sig!

before i got my ltc, i was a member at boston indoor gun range & tried every pistol they had under the counter. i kept going back to a glock22. i put a deposit on a factory refurb it was my first pistol and i cant count how many rounds ive put thru it. its been replaced by a pm9 for carry because of size but its still in the safe and gets fired pretty often just for fun. ive been looking for a 2nd or 3rd gen w/ a rail for laser/light combo for home defense but will keep the old one for a shooter. i'm considering a 9mm ported & extended barrel and trigger job. great pistols. hope you are as happy with your first as i am with mine.

yup i don't like DA/SA triggers either, i don't know where you live but if your willing to try a .40 the American Firearms School in north attleboro has a full size USP. or you could try Manchester Firing Line in nh, though thats too far for me to drive for a test shoot.

I tried a forum member's USP compact 9 and his Glock 19's 3rd and 4th gen, and i prefer the 3rd gen over the 4th . but i still over the course of the day i just gravitated torwards the uspc.

I bought a Glock 22 LEO hand me up and it must have been issued to the chaplin. No wear marks at all, well hardly anyways and a sweet shooter too.

What are you doing this weekend? I wouldn't mind heading over to MFL in NH if you want to come . i want to try out a P2000SK in 9mm, i know they have plenty of USp's to try out .. from what i hear.

This weekends no good it's my mothers birthday! However next weekend I don't have anything planned yet pm me if you want to try and set something up!

>>I don't really care for the double action/single action triggers like the sig!<<

Ditto that!

Yes i know the glock koolaid and hk koolaid are just as tasty, i like them both but both need mods to fit me , :) i might end up with a glock 26 for my main carry , just have to change the slide spring to a lighter one, sand down the hard grip for my hands, add an extended mag release lever.

For the hk uspc im getting, i need to convert to dao LEM with a 5.5 spring. And take the safety off of it, and add the Hk45c extended mag release and put it on the uspc, but even a person who has never worked on a firearm can change that last bit myself by pushing out a pin.
