Was on vacation with the wife -- she was a good sport and between the candy shops, candle factories and other excitement of rural Pennsylvania was a gun range that had the usual assortment of guns open to the public to shoot. Tried the Taurus Judge, kind of liked it. Tried a 4" model 686...that may have made my buy list if I can find one that I can trade....

but staring at me was the IMI desert eagle in .44 Magnum....it was stainless, it was heavy....and it was dead on frikin accurate with little felt recoil. The instructor (who insisted on loading and cocking each weapon much to my chagrin) wasnt a huge fan of it but my GOD what a freakishly powerful weapon. I could probably never justify carrying such a piece, but what a well engineered handgun.

i like the 44 mag DE the best because the ammo is somewhat reasonable vs. the 50AE, but it made me chuckle each shot. [laugh]

i've shot the 357mag, 44mag and 50AE between three friends who own them. they are definitely a "chuckle" piece.

Is there a .22 conversion for it?

When I was a kid I used to bring my GF at the time to the pocono's for her fall birthday just so I could go there and drop some money at that place. The only problem is they hover over you and the chains holding the guns to the bench are some times too short for tall guys.

Chains holding the guns to a bench??? I could never justify patronizing a range like that.

I have a DE in stainless with both 44 and 50 barrels and mags. I don't shoot it often, but when I do I giggle a lot!

Just a very cool and fun weapon with a lot of WOW factor.

I have had several DEs. 1 in 44 and 3 in 50. While I think the 44 is probably the best of the bunch to shoot as far as recoil, accuracy and cost per shot the 50 is the way to go. If you are going to go for a ginormous impractical piece, you need to go all in and go w/ 50. It is just absolutely riculous and a blast to shoot. Everyone that I have ever let shoot it immediately turns around with a huge grin and most just giigle and laugh.. not many other guns get that kind of consitant reaction for fun factor.
My current is a 50 in titanium (gold-ish). Hop-along Goldstien...

Was this at the Sunset Hill Shooting Range? Did you shoot the .500 S&W ? That is one fun gun to shoot.
