METHUEN — At least three gunshots, possibly more, were fired at a multi-family house at 74 Elmwood Road this morning at 1:30, police said.

Nobody was injured in the shooting, said Methuen police Lt. Kevin Mahoney, adding that the incident is under investigation.

The occupants of a first-floor apartment initially called police when they realized someone had damaged their car, parked out front of the house.

They then told investigators that they had also heard gunshots. Upon investigation, police found bullet holes on the outside of the house, and police recovered two bullets from the exterior siding.

Police do not believe the shooting was random, but that the people living in the apartment, possibly a brother and sister, were targeted.

Mahoney said it was "probably not gang-related" but that investigators don't know for sure.

Elmwood Road is a dead-end street off Lawrence Street in Methuen.

Mahoney could not comment on whether the gunshots came from an automatic weapon or not, or whether it was a drive-by shooting. He said the investigation is being conducted by officer Justin Law and Detective John Delano.

The car damaged out front of the house was a VW Golf. It was not damaged by bullets, he said, but was vandalized.
