Should I trade my Bushmaster XM15 for another?

I picked up a used Bushmaster XM15 about 7 months ago and now that the motorcycle season is coming to an end, I will be shooting more. I've taken it 3 times and so far I'm not happy with it because I didn't do my research and "just bought" it because I wanted one. The issues I have are, I don't like the handle because I have to mount the scope up there and I don't feel comfortable with it for some reason. Also I should have gone with a collapsable stock so my wife could shoot it with ease as well. Are there some mods that I can correct these issues that are cost effective or am I better replacing it?

first off you can remove the carry handle and add a riser block to mount a scope or holographic sight. That's what I did with mine which is now sold. On the stock, if you live in Massachusetts, you can't have the collapsible stock as far as I understand that's the reason it's pinned.

This. No collapsible stock unless you get a pre-ban rifle.

You can get a plastic riser that will give you a better cheek weld if you mount a scope.

How many rounds have you run thru it? Don't be too quick to sell it if you haven't shot enough to get comfortable with it. Might regret it later!

I have that model and love it, I removed the carry handle and put a nice red dot on there, you're stuck with the stock though. I've got more than 15K rounds through it with no issues. Bought it in Jan 10.

Surprises? Uh oh.....I don't know if I like the sound of that. Is it in relation to the laws?
Here ya go. Have fun reading, and when you finish sobbing come on back and ask any questions you may have.

What you're looking for here is to make sure your gun isn't an "assault weapon" per Massachusetts law. Unless you happen to buy an "assault weapon" that was in an "assault" configuration before September 14th, 1994, making it a "pre-ban" gun and therefore OK.

I spoke to my dealer where I bought it and he convinced me to keep it because I would have taken a bath on it. He put an EOTECH holographic as he said that would be the best option and after looking through it, I think I'm going to go that route.

If I can remove it, then that will change my plans. I didn't realize that collapsible stocks aren't legal. [frown]

Collapsible stocks are legal - you just need to have it pinned. Now you have an excuse to buy another lower and stock to fit your wife. Of course now you might as well get another upper!

Being a AR newbie, I didn't realize that I could make changes to my existing one. A good friend of mine is on a local SWAT team and is taking me to the range next month to help me out. I think my next step is getting an Eotech holographic scope and then taking the time to actually learn the gun and the steps to shooting it successfully.
