Looking to buy a sig 226 I would i would like it in 9mm but they make a conversion to 22 rim fire cheeper to practice with or I can get the 226 in 22 rim and convert to 9mm . Looking for feedback on what way to go the price is about the same what ever way I go .

You can buy the centerfire P226 in Ma. and get a .22 conversion but you can't buy a P226 .22 Classic in Ma. to convert to 9mm. For some reason the P226 .22 Classic isn't Ma. compliant. Go figure. Then again look at what state we live in.

My uncle has the 229 with the 9mm and .22 conversion. The conversion is a piece of cake, release the slide, lock the new slide in and change mags. I think the cost was around $300 and he got it from Sig directly. He really loves it and it makes it a nice piece of equipment to own.

For the archives, at least: if you live in a free state, buying the P226 in .22lr and THEN the 9mm caliber x-change kit (as they call it) will save you a few hundred bucks (as opposed to buying the P226 in 9mm and getting the .22lr kit).

Sad that you can't do that in MA.

A small detail about P226 22LR conversion kit: the 22LR slide will not lock at the last round. There are some after market product that you could get to modify the slide stop (on the 22LR magazine).
