friend is looking to get into a Sig 716 DMR with rebates from them.. and wondering if its worth it , or go for something from dpms for 308.

it looks really nice and has a moa guarantee. for 2000, he can just swap the stock and slap on a pws 308 muzzle break and be set for mass.

anyone shot a 716? how is Sig rifle quality ? advice

I have not had good experiences with DPMS. All three of the barrels that I purchased had rough chambers that required extensive polishing before the gun would cycle reliably. With QC this bad who would risk buying a complete rifle?

I had a sig 516. Great rifle to shoot dirty ammo. Not the best for heavy training and the lack of rails sucked. I liked mine but traded it for a yankee hill machine

I've shot a friend's 716. I wouldn't toss 2 grand at it, but that's just me, and I'm a SIG fanboi.

French, were there QC issues ? What were the reasons?

Ive looked the the ruger sr762 but its too short a barrel. Looking for 18" min. And piston driven so it wont stall up with ammo like tula and other

I shot a 716 DMR a few weeks ago.

Beautiful rifle, with top notch machining, fit/finish, etc. Everything. AFAIK, they're basically all Sig made (Sig has been outsourcing less and less), and all machined right here in NH. But I wouldn't pay retail for one. It's big, expensive, heavy, and a Remington 700 will outshoot it. No QC issues with them, there are just cheaper ways to accomplish what they do on a one-way range when you're just punching paper. Rifles like the 716 DMR are made to sit down groups of bad dudes shooting at you from behind walls/cover from hundreds of yards away.

I don't understand why you would buy a rifle like a 716 DMR to shoot Tula out of. That's like dumping the old tank of chainsaw gas you found in the garage into your brand new WRX STi. The barrels are guaranteed 0.5MOA or better, but that's with quality (read: expensive) ammo. The fact that it's piston driven really shouldn't affect whether or not it cycles crappy steel ammo anyways.

If your friend just wants a .308 battle rifle to blast paper and bowling pins at the 50yd range, I think the 716 DMR is way overkill, and a waste of money. Just buy any of the other cheaper 308 AR10 platform offerings out there. Or a FAL. If they have no problem spending a lot of extra money to get a top-notch rifle just because, then the 716 DMR is a great choice.

No, the quality was fine. I thought the recoil was kinda unpleasant, and the ergos were just not for me. My buddy has a horribly expensive night force glass on it, and the jackass has nowhere to shoot over 200 yards. As far as rifles go, I know it's a bolt action, but I think the best SIG has to offer is their SSG3000. Now, that's a sub MOA stick with a great stock for a VERY decent price/value.
