Rooting around the safe this morning, found my 220 I forgot I owned. I just store it on the bottom shelf where I never bend and look is all. So I'm looking at it and it has an internal extractor. A WTF moment, never noticed it. OK, I assumed all Sigs were external just because, you know, looking at their 1911's. I did some internet research on 220's as well as the others, 229, etc. Some have external extractors, some do not. Just wanting to know if older ones were made with internals while newer manufacture ones were changed? I don't know so hence the question. My own 220 was German made I suppose, marked "Made In Germany" on the right side of the slide, "Sig Arms, Inc" "Exeter, NH" is on the left side. I remember buying it in the early to mid 90's. So just looking for a little info on Sig designs, this was not intended to be a discussion/debate on one over the other.

SIGs vary. I have a P 226 Stainless with an external extractor and also a P 226 X5 All Around with an internal extractor.

The older folded slide SIGs have internal extractors in the breechblock. Newer ones with the milled slide have the external ones.

congrats on rediscovering your old friend..may we all be so lucky

The folded steel German made guns came with the internal extractors....the newer milled slides come with the external extractors. On the underside of the dust cover there should be a proofmark and a 'born on date' code if it was made in the 90s. Does your slide have a serial number on it and if so, does the serial number on the slide match with the number on the frame?

Didn't see the proofs on dust cover and don't know exactly when it was made. I might have the sales receipt somewhere, I'll look. Do remember buying it at Four Seasons before Carl owned it, early 90's???

If it were in the 90s, there should be 2 letters under the business end of the barrel........K(A,B,C,D...) also, if it was before 94 I think, the slide should also be naked W. Germany

Here are the slide markings

Can't locate receipt but think 1994 - 95 purchase. The are no proof marks on or near dust cover.

I believe this is the pattern:
stamped slides have breach blocks of harder steel, have internal extractors in with the breach block, and have two part rolled pins.
milled slides do not have breach blocks, have external extractors, and solid pins.

The proof markings are located on the underside of the slide.

My X 5 has a milled slide and an internal extractor.

No, I have no such markings on my P220. I thinking now parts made in Germany, assembled in N.H. I'm also thinking the extractor placement was a cost cutting thing or easier to manufacture.

On the sigforum.--- under "Sig Pistols" you will find a "thread" with a listing of models and serial numbers with approximate born on dates. If there are (and there usually are) multiple SNs from the same year you can figure out the month.
