This is a brand new sig I just got a few weeks ago. When I took it out of the case there was some oil on the slide and it left a bit of a cloudiness on the slide. Now after cleaning it twice this is what the slide looks like.

I used hoppes 9 and hoppes oil to clean it the first time (inside), and break free on the inside - remington oil wipes on the outside this time. Could hoppes hurt the finish if it gets on the outside?

What can I do to clean it? I hope the finish isnt damaged...

Hoppes shouldn't do that. Call their CS and send the slide back for a refinish. I don't think that they'll change to a new gun.

Actually email Victoria Martin at Sig and tell your story and include the pic, Ser.#, Date of puchase, etc. She is the best. Here is her email Victoria.Martin@SigSauer.com

Definitely send that on back to Sig, their QC lately has suuuuuuucked. I picked up a new 229 a few months back and when I got it home and field stripped it I found some lousy inconsistencies in the finish inside the slide.

I cant really send it back and the slide is laser engraved. I applied some elbow greese with a cotton cloth and it actually looks better now, but it still looks dull. I will upload some new pics.

looks odd to me. I mean they are a little dull usually (un oiled) but not that dull.
