Hi everyone,
Does anyone know if there were any DAO P220s made prior to the DAK?
Also, does anyone have any experience with the euro style mag release?
I'm thinking that this might be a good alternative for my short thumbs.

Thanks,
Tony

Any DA/SA P220 can be turned into a DAO by using the DAO hammer. I'm sure they are out there, you just don't see too many floating around.

A euro release P220 is gonna be pretty rare, and likely more expensive than
it needs to be. The button release is far, far more common.

If you have short thumbs, consider using the Gunsite method of magazine changes -- a slight toss of the gun to shift the gun in your grip, allowing your thumb better access to the mag release button.

If you are going to use your left thumb to release the magazine, then the heel release won't be any faster than a standard release (and, in fact, is likely to be slower).

Gunsite has been teaching the toss for decades. It is worth trying. Wish I could find a video clip of it.

If you're going to use your offhand anyways, then just keep the regular 220 -- thumb button will still be faster than the heel release.

BTW, this conversion on an already compliant gun would not make it non compliant, right?

Unsure, but frankly it doesn't matter. Handgun Compliance is a dealer issue only. Further, if you wanted to switch it back, you could do so.

IIRC on the P series sigs it was just the hammer, but there may be more to it than that. Jimmy at four would probably know, and he might even
have the parts for it, too.

I'm left handed and have been using my trigger finger to hit the mag release on right handed pistols all my life. If you are right handed you could have the release reversed on the P220 and try it that way.

Unfortunately I have been doing it that way for so long I can't get used to a left handed release and don't have any. I tried one of my P220s with a left handed release for a while and had it switched back.
