Has anyone here picked up one of the German police P6's that are available in the states lately? I've seen a bunch around here and there. they seem to be going for around $300 to $325 or so. Nice little guns if you can get a good clean one.
They're a P6 in Europe an a 225 here.

I remember seeing that Dennis at First Firearm Defense in Uxbridge had some a while ago - not sure if he has any more or if expecting more....

Drop him a line and he will respond.....

I've seen a few advertised. I wonder how they compare to a traditional P239. I think it's only chambered in 9mm and it's got roughly the same round capacity.

Handled a used one many years ago before they got rare.

P225 went out of production before SigArms in NH was created, before SIG switched to the stippled grip patterns. Like the old P220 and P226, the P225 will have the original checkered diamond grip pattern and flat metal magazine floorplate.

It's difficult to compare the P225 to other members in the Sig line. The P220, P225, P239, and P245 are all single column magazines, but the 220 and 245 grips are longer front to back to accomodate .45acp, and the 239 and 245 grips are shorter to make for a near sub-compact frame. The slide on the 220 is longer and the 239 and 245 slides are shorter, so the balance for those doesn't compare either.

The P225 is going to feel narrow like a P220 compared to other Sigs, but have a fuller grip than a P239 because the frame is a little larger and doesn't crowd the pinky. Comparing it to the P229 (the current compact frame) is difficult because the P229 slide is a lot heavier to accomodate .40s&w and .357sig recoil. The closest sibling to the P225 is the P228 - the compact version of the P226.

I had the luxury of being able to chose between a couple of used P225s and a used and new P228 during the run up to a potential hand gun ban in California. I went with the P228 because the rounder shape of the grip to accomodate a double column magazine combined with the newer stippled pattern to the grips felt more natural.

Either way it'd be a sweet 9mm if they've not led an abused life.

Good little guns. Only difference between the P225 and P6 other than the markings are the hammer and feed ramp IIRC. The hammer on the P6 is "hooked", and the feed ramps on the earlier models are less conducive to feeding hollowpoints.

re:p6

purchased one from dan's sporting in pa,great pistol awesome shape. It came with original case,manual,2 magazines and holster. $259-
Makes a great ccw.

If you buy a 225, drop the 14 bucks and replace all the springs. It seems that is the only weak point in the gun.

I have a P225 and I like it.

I have a great 225... LOVE it. I haven't felt the need to replace the springs though... hmm.

Anyway... I have a 229 as well but I prefer the fit of the single stack frame of the 225.

I mean... come on... a Sig for ~$250-350? No brainer [smile]

I love my P6! Was a gift from my father - excellent condition, shoots very well. Very concealable little gun! I currently use a Don Hume IWB holster, but I've got a BladeTech UHC on my Christmas list. I've also used the shoulder rig that my particular pistol came with during long car rides. The DH doesn't provide a great deal of retention, but it's comfortable enough and slips into the waistband real quick if I'm going to take the dog out, find myself late to get somewhere, etc etc.

The feed ramp issues were rendered moot after a certain date cutoff. If you wind up with a pre-"fix" feed ramp, it can either be polished, or you can carry a specialty round for self defense. I use Powerball, and have run more than a hundred rounds through with no issues whatsoever. For polishing, I'd check out the SigFourm - IIRC there's a gentleman there who will do the work for you in the $40 range.

The only problem I've ever encountered with my P6 is with the aftermarket "ProMag" magazines I bought for range days - they often fail to feed the last round without some coaxing. If you buy ProMag magazines to go with your P6, do not count on them to save your life. Handy for the range, though. =)
