I have a Sig P 226 and I need to move the rear sight just a smidge. It's the standard factory notched Sig sight. I tried to gently tap it over to move it and nothing. So I tried tapping harder until it was clear that the dovetail is really stuck. What's next? I'm sure that somebody out there knows how to do this. Any help would be appreciated.

get a site pusher

I concur. Just about anytime you want to make site adjustments use a "sight adjustment tool", aka; sight pusher. You can't knock those into place that easy and you will probably knock it too far. You can also get an armorer to do it for less than the $60-90 for the tool. If you are north of boston, north shore firearms in middletown can probably help you out as well as four seasons in woburn.

I bet Jimmy @ FS has a pusher for Sigs, he'd probably adjust it for you for
not much money.

A sight pusher is a good idea. The only other thought that occurs to me is that it could be rust between the parts. Soaking the back of the slide in a cup full of a good penetrating oil like Kroil overnight might free it up so it would move with the punch.
