We bought our son a sig sauer 1911 22lr pistol every since we got it its been jamming expelled shell casing caught in the chamber is the most common .I've tried getting the better ammo cci brand instead of the remington 500 count the cci brand is about the same price but only 100 rounds any suggestions would be appreciated before I send it back to the factory thanks k.c. and my impatient son Justin

People have been complaining a lot about the Remington 22 ammo. Try the CCI mini mags and Federal bulk ammo. Make sure you clean and lube the gun too.

My experience has been that as far as cheap ammo goes, the remington is among the worst.

The Federal value pack at Walmart seems to feed better. (if you look at the remington, the bullet nose is kindof squared off)

If you keep your eyes open at slickguns.com you can get exceptional deals on what I consider to be the most accurate cheap ammo there is: CCI blazer .22

the blazer is not plated, but runs pretty clean. I recently got 5000 rounds for $150 shipped. Thats $3 / 100. I really love this stuff. This past spring I took my best ruger 10/22, the one with the shillen bbl and put my Nikon Monarch 4-12 scope on it to test the accuracy of different ammo in it.

I didn't try any high end target ammo, but stuck with basic stuff

CCI minimags
cci standard velocity
federal value pack
cci blazer.

The most accurate was the std velocity. The blazer was second!!
The most reliable was the minimag

Hope this helps.

Blazers were my favorite 22 LR ammo, accurate and reliable. Unfortunately, they seem to have changed the bullet, or at least the lube. The last brick I bought had heavily lubed bullets that wouldn't feed in my Marvel conversion or my Model 1 22 LR AR upper. I am back to Federal bulk "brown box".

Reliability problems with new 22s is common as there is a break in period. I would experiment with various brands, but also keep the gun well lubed to facilitate this break in.

Welcome K.C.

First, I don't know you're experience so I'll cover the basics.

1) It's a new gun. It needs to be disassembled and cleaned.
Get some cleaner like Hoppes #9 or Hoppes Elite field strip it and clean it up of all the factory oil. New guns come with a thicker oil that acts as a preventative against rust opposed to a lubricant.

2) Now you need to lube it up. Be careful not to over do it - burnt powder will accumulate in areas of access lubrication.
Which lubricant you choose is a highly debatable topic but as long as it's a specific gun lube you'll be fine. Take your pick in the hunting section at WalMart or a local gun shop - Miltec, CLP whatever

MOST 1911 .22 lr come in the form of conversion kits with a slide barrel and mag combo that fit into a .45 ACP frame and MANY folks continue to experience issues UNLESS they use CCI Stingers. I haven't heard any reviews on that specific Sig 1911 .22 model. That's a big, heavy slide on the Sig 1911, even if it's aluminum for cheapo .22 ammo.
Stingers are pricy but have more umph to rack the big slide.

Even many folks with Sig Mosquitos have to use Stingers or mini mags, but some people can use cheaper bulk ammo without issues.

Pick up some Stingers and a Federal value pack. Run a few mags of the the Stingers first to see if it's functioning properly, then move to the Federal ammo and so on.

Get that thing cleaned and let us know how you make out!

I have a Mosquito and the cheapest ammo that works well is the Federal Auto Match Target Grade. It's around 13.00 for a 325 round box at Walmart. It's specifically designed for semi autos.

You can also clip coils off the recoil spring if you think the problem is that your pet ammo doesn't have enough power.

I have a M11/9 .22 conversion that required that kind of tuning to run with federal value pack ammo. just clip one turn off at a time until it does what you need.

KC,

Give the 1911 22 a good cleaning. Those things come pretty lubed up from the factory. Once you've got it all cleaned up & are ready to go back to the range, try some Federal Champion bulk pack ammo. My GSG's feed & shoot these rounds reliably.

I didn't realize that Sig came out with a 1911 .22. Seems like a cool gun. Have been thinking about picking up a .22. I'm still a new shooter and would like to work more on accuracy. Is it Mass Legal? I would rather purchase this than the Mesquito.

I've seen a couple of them in shops around central CT. It's pretty much the same thing as the GSG 1911 except with SIG branding on one side and a nicer set of SIG branded wood grips.
