Hello everyone I recently went on the Sig website and noticed the the Equinox is not mass approved. I have had this gun for almost 2 years and like it very much. I recently moved back to mass and I am wondering why its not mass approved? I know it came with a 12 round magazine (which I know is illegal to bring into mass so I sold it before moving). This handgun was a gift from a friend of mine and would hate to have to get rid of it.
Can anyone give me a little more information as to why Sig would say that its not approved for Mass?

Aside from what you mentioned (10 cartridge mags max) MA compliant pistols must have a "load indicator" i.e. the barrel must have a small bore hole toward the back of the barrel hood so that you can visually determine if a round is chambered or not without having to move the slide back. Manufacturers need to do this special for MA. I know this is the case for Sigs at least. I'd upload a pic but can't do that yet.

From what I have learned is that if you owned the handgun prior to moving to mass, you can bring it with you but lose the post ban hi-cap mags

No high caps unless they're pre-ban.

The "Mass Approved" thing is for dealers. You're allowed to bring it in with you (follow all laws about moving) and allowed to sell it in a private sale (face-to-face on FA10). Likewise, a properly licensed individual would be able to buy it from you in MA in a face-to-face transaction, a dealer wouldnt' be able to do the paperwork.

Okay now I get the reasoning. Well sort of anyway not that I agree with it but hey I moved back so its my own fault. As far as the 12 rd vs 10 rd I don't really see that it makes a difference as there is no limit on how many mags you can have and if I cant hit something with 10 rds I dont think 2 more will make me anymore accurate. There's a few things that I don't really understand or just dont make sense if I get a Class A ltc which I got because it covers high cap mags why on earth would the date that it was made really make it illegal to have I mean a high cap mag is a high cap mag. Does the fact that its new make it more dangerous? I had to sell 5 mags because they where 12 round mags made Post Ban. At work I carry an M-9 with 2/15 round mags in condition 1 but its a government issued gun with mags.  <br>As I gather it I am allowed to bring the gun to Mass without the 12 rounders.

Both SIG and the Massachusetts Approved Firearms Roster indicate it is not compliant for sale by dealers or FFL transfer in Massachusetts.

Which is not the same thing as being illegal in MA. It's perfectly legal for the OP (or anyone else with the appropriate LTC) to buy or carry any pistol save the few that fall under our retarded assault weapons ban.
