I recently bought a Sig556 Holo. Apparently the MA model was made with an A4-type buttstock which I was not crazy about.

The Sigforums stated that a lot of people have been swapping out that stock with a Milspec (commercial version), so I picked one up recently.

It seems the tube on my Sig is a perfect circle and the Milspec, like all other AR tactical style buttstocks, is not. It has a little divot on the bottom to prevent the stock from rotating. My question is; is there anyway to make this stock fit on the 556? Is there an adaptor that can be used on the tube? Has anyone else swapped their stock out that has a Sig purchased in MA, CT, NY, etc...Or am I out of luck?

Answered my own question after a little research...

The receiver tube DOES screw off. For whatever reason I thought it was welded on...Anyway - going to order a replacement tube.

I too just bought a SIG 556 and wanted to do the same. Would you let me know exactly what you bought, where, and how much to change it out?

Thanks.

Stock = Magpul CTR (Commercial Version) - $99 from ZHA

Receiver Tube = Cactus Tactical - ~$38 shipped

Unscrew the receiver tube, add the new buttstock (Make sure to PIN it on there!) - ZHA offered to do it for me, but it seems like a relatively simple task, so I didn't inquire about pricing.

Thank you glide for the info! [smile]

Now I have had the song Glide by Phish in my head all day...thanks for that too!

How are you managing the whole AWB issue? That is, I am assuming that, since you bought a Ban-State model, you live in MA and therefore the CTR stock would pose a legality issue. Now, that said, I make no judgements, I'm just saying if a cop were to roll up before you were able to stash the gumbo...

Yeah, using a CTR on a 556 in MA is basically a felony, unless he's LE or he pinned the CTR, which would kind of defeat the whole purpose of buying it. [laugh]

It is a Mass compliant 556. The stock will be pinned before it is put on the rifle. I was not a fan of the look or the length of the factory stock.

I probably could have gone with other options...but these were readily available locally. And in the case that I someday move to a free state I could always un-pin it.

At the risk of being ignorant, what exactly is involved in pinning the stock? Does a pin come with the stock that just needs to be put in or do you have to buy/make a pin to fit? I too am basically doing this for aesthetics and have no desire to have it fold, shorten, or otherwise do anything non compliant.

I'd like to know how it's pinned too.

search the forums for "stock pin"

I believe it simply needs to be pinned in such a way that you cannot adjust. This is normally accomplished by welding a pin through the stock / receiver tube.

JDL Sales (a forum member, is doing mine)

I pin stocks for $15.00 + $3.75 in hardware total $18.75 I also have an assortment of stocks in stock.

Thank you for the clarification

From what I understand the Ar15 stocks will fit on a sig 556, so I think when the time comes I will go with this option

Just got my stock back!

Looks nice!

I went with the Magpul PRS Stock and while I was at it ordered:

Tango Down Vertical BattleGrip
Tango Down Advance Combat Bipod
Trijicon TA31ECOS

Just got the vert grip yesterday, waiting for it all to put together and take it to the range. Can't wait!

Let us know how she fires!

I'll report back after I get the tac rails on there and test her out [smile]

So what did they do to pin the Magpul stock so that it doesn't move? I have a Sig556 on my "to buy" list and don't really like the way it looks with the A2 stock - but like the way the Magpul looks on yours. So that might be an option.

Seeing a pinned CTR = [crying] [sad]

I suppose if you like the way it looks.... then more power to ya.
