I'm looking to broaden my search of a new winter carry firearm.

I'm looking for something around the size of a glock 19. I was looking into some CCO style 1911's or a sig 239.

Is there anything along the lines of these firearms that are skinnier? I know the 239 is a single stack but that's still a pretty wide gun.

A firearm that would offer 9mm is a plus but I'm not picky on caliber.

Thanks,

Derek

The new Sig P238's are very skinny and are built on a 1911 styled design. Only a .380, but should still be plenty effective. Really nice built guns, they feel very solid in your hand. And they come in six different variations, so you should be able to find one you like. Most have a stainless slide with aluminum frame, but the HD is all stainless.

I know it's probably smaller than what you are looking for, but it's still something to consider. And we all know Sig makes good stuff.

How about a Glock 19 or a Sig P225 in 9MM? I love my P225, single stack with an 8 round mag. I also carry a Glock 19 though because of capacity......

tokarev is very thin and 7.62*25 is a nice round.
P7m8 is thin (but heavy by today's standards)
keltec 32 and 380 are very tin as well.

Kahr K9. A lot skinnier than a Glock 19. Less capacity as well, of course -- there is no free lunch. The Kahr trigger has a longer throw than a Glock trigger, and a longer reset. But it is also much smoother, with none of that plasticky Glock crunch.

PPS or KahrPM9
I have a number of Kahrs: K40, K9, MK9, and PM9. For me, the MK9 and PM9 are simply pocket guns. If you are going to carry in a belt holster, you can conceal a K9 just as easily as an Mk9/PM9, and in exchange you have a better grip and longer sight radius, which makes it easier to shoot accurately.

On the other hand, if you are looking for pocket carry, the K9 and K40 are simply unsuitable.

How do the MK9 and PM9 compare? I know they are made from different materials, and therefore one is lighter and has more recoil, but otherwise, are they the same trigger and guts? Is the MK9 steel, aluminum, or alloy?

The Walther PPS is one of the skinniest 9x19 guns you can find (that's not meant to be a pocket pistol). I have one and it's a great shooter once you fix the crappy MA trigger.

The MK9 is all stainless and much heavier than the PM9, but the internals are the same. For pocket carry, the PM9 is much easier to carry. The flip side is that while the MK9 only has a touch more recoil than the K9 (which has very little), the PM9 has noticeably more recoil than the MK9. Neither the MK9 nor the PM9 are range guns that you would look forward to shooting a couple hundred rounds through. But the PM9 has noticeably more recoil.

The PM9 and the P380 are a joy to shoot compared to the Ruger LCP. Check one out in person and see if it fits your hand. If you are buying a pocket gun that small an all-stainless body is kind of a mixed blessing. Kind of like the P238 "pro" which now has a stainless body instead of the standard aluminum body.

I completely forgot about this thread.

Thanks for the input guys. I have looked at the PPS, but its just not for me.

The other recommendations are great, but I'm looking for a bigger gun then most of the sub compacts recommended.

I'll probably end up with the Glock 19, I was just hoping to find something with a similar barrel
length/sight radius but not as chunky.

It's already been mentioned in this thread. Kahr K9. I've got one. Send me a PM if you want to try it.
