SKS adding additional "evil features"

Just for confirmation. If you have a old SKS (obviously pre 1994) with a Bayonet / detachable mag are you not allowed to add a adjustable stock/pistol grip? Some places will not ship to MA with those features.

A past ATF chief said no, that would make it an assault weapon. Practically speaking, who knows.

ETA: is this a rifle that was designed to be detachable from the start, or was modified after the fact?
