Looking to get my first AR - this seems to be a popular choice and for the money I haven't been able to find anything cheaper from any of the well-known online retailers. My wife says I should probably buy one before the price goes up again. I'm not good at making snap decisions so I'll have to ponder for a while.

Any experience with the 1:9 twist that these barrels are now sporting?

Just thought I'd give a heads up if anyone is looking for a low price

I think Four Seasons has them for 599.99 Just call.

What weight bullets do you plan on shooting? 1 in 9 is best for very light projectiles. If you plan on shooting surplus ammo 1 in 7 is a better choice

This. He definitely had them for $599 before prices went crazy. Think the price went up slightly but it will probably still be cheaper than buying online, paying for shipping and transfer fees.

I think the 599 price was a special pricing deal..i believe they regulary sell them for 650
they have no forward assist or dust cover

Frankly I'm probably not going to be shooting long distances - not with this gun at least. I have hardly any experience with .223/5.56 caliber, I'm in the market for a suitable budget gun though, because who knows how long these rifles will be legal?

I understand that S & W used to make the M &P 15 Sport with a 1:8 twist, but the 1:9 is a cost cutting measure. Oh well!

B&K Sales in Natick has it on sale this week for $675. Not quite the FS price, but about the same as you would spend on the deal in the OP after shipping & transfer.
