Hey everyone, I am interested in Smith and Wesson's model 10 revolver. I have been doing some research and understand that it has been around forever. I was wondering if anyone has shot the newest version that smith and wesson has on their website. I shoot my dads Beretta and Sig which are fantastic autos but I would like to purchase my own revolver. Any information on this model 10 is welcome.

Get one of the older ones. They will be ~$350 for a pristine one, alot less for one slightly beat. I would look for a 3" heavy barrel if you can find one. I really like the way it looks. Classic and balanced. You can shoot +p with no problems. It'll be cheaper and better built than the new production ones.

Ditto buy an old one. They are indestructible but do the basic inspection just to be safe.

I like the older ones better, but that's personal preference. 3" barrels are not very common, so they command a bit of a premium. You will generally find either a 4" standard (pencil) barrel or a 4" heavy barrel. There are blue ones and nickle ones. There are a number of variations, with different model numbers. All use the same basic design. Which goes back over 100 years.

I would recommend against shooting +P rounds in any weapon not stamped +P.

They used to be a dime a dozen, but lately collectors have taken a real interest in them and prices have gone up a lot.

Four Seasons has used one listed for $269.95 call them and ask them the condition of it. Most used revolvers are usally in pretty good condition and with the money you save, you can buy a lot of rounds to practice with.

I have the newer model 4" and it's about as comfortable and fun to shoot with the rubber grips as you can get. It's an accurate shooter as well and very easy to get used to. The new ones take the plus P ammo where some of the older models might be iffy.

my personal gunsmith bought four 10-5 and made full blown ppc guns pound and a half trigger pull 3/4 inch steel above and below barrel, four position rear sight. then offered three at cost for us serious shooters, he kept one for himself, all I can say is wow.. two hundred rounds of practice today, gonna be a fun spring

One of the simplest and best revolvers ever made. You can't go wrong with a Model 10 of any era, and you can stake your life on them.

I prefer the older 4" one with the pencil barrel, though the only one I have currently is a nickeled snubbie with a target hammer. No reason to spend more than $400 on any of them.

well now...i like mod 10's also. i've shown these before, top 4" is 1974 vintage, bottom 3" is 1991, da only and round butt. left the factory w/4" bbl, original owner sent it back for the 3" so box is marked 4".

There are a lot of older Model 10s out there. Many were surplused by LE, state corrections and security companies. You could get a low round count, high holster wear one for +/- $300. I like the heavy 4" barrel ones.

This is a 10-8 with aftermarket Sile grips.
