I have an LCR right now as my daily carry. I like the gun in my pocket or IWB. Staged shooting with it up to @20 yards is a dream. Further out, or under pressure, and the gun rocks around in my big hands like a ship on the stormy seas.

The real issue is the 2 finger grip i can get on the grip. I just cant seem to get it stable under pressure or without staging the trigger.

As much as I like the gun, I just dont think it fits me. If there were another option for the grip, I'd probably try it....(CT Grip is useless, since i cover the laser with my thumb...)

I really prefer a revolver. (I shoot lefty) and probably under a 3" barrel. Oh and 357.

Looking at:

SP101
Smith 60
Maybe Smith 640 (the grips are a bit small)

Anything else I should keep my out for?
Suggestions and recommendations are welcome...

Once you're into the larger grips I suppose you are out of the pocket carry realm so maybe consider some medium frame revolvers like the GP100 in a 3" barrel or Smith 686 in a 2.5" or 3" barrel.

That's been my experience as well. I tried putting a larger boot grip on my 642. That made it much easier to shoot, but now I could no longer carry it in a pocket, which defeats the purpose of the gun.

If you are going to carry on your belt, I'd carry a K or L-frame, rather than a J-frame. I've got a very nice 2.5" Model 66 that I carry on occasion.

A model 13 .357 K frame with Pachmayer grips and a short barrel was my carry gun for years until I got my first Glock, you can't go wrong with a 13, 19, or later variant.

I have a Model 60 with Hogue grips that gives me plenty to grab on to.

I also have large hands and find the 2 1/2" 66 to be a good choice in a revolver. I also like the Kahr P45. I can get all my fingers on the grip and it conceals well.

I'm in maine and have a 6" 686. which i can test out IWB, i guess...the 6" wont print that badly, will it?

The 60-14 I tried on in a store seemed much better than the 640 or LCR for grip size...

Which grip are you using on the LCR? There's 2 options stock, the Hogue Tamer or the Hogue Boot Grip.

Now ruger's site doesn't list the boot grip any more. Maybe they got rid of that option.

I just recently bought a S&W model 37, and it is a dream to shoot, @ 20 feet I can fire as fast as I can and keep all five shots right on target. and with the basic wooden grips it's easy to keep under control, even being a snub nose. I used to carry an old Charter Arms .38 undercover before this, and it was very difficult to keep on target shooting fast due to the heavy trigger pull when used D/A.

I'd say get a S&W 36 or 37

SP101 is a pretty solid choice. Your pinky might have issue with the default grip, but they make an extended Hogue 'recoil management' grip if its a problem.

Despite being a little beefier it can be carried IWB, even with a light T shirt (depending on how you wear it, size, etc.). The Hogue grip would make concealment harder (no personal experience, but I've heard this, and it does extend the grip by around an inch) but it would still be doable. Wasn't a huge fan of the 640, recoil seemed a lot sharper than the SP101, and I don't think there's an exposed hammer model (though that probably isn't an issue for the vast majority of shooters). No experience whatsoever with the 60.

I'm a left hander also.

I bought a S&W J-Frame used (model 60), I couldn't shoot the thing worth a darn, I put the larger "wood Target Grips" on it, still couldn't shoot it.

I traded it in for a new J-Frame with the Crimson Trace Grips on it, still couldn't shoot that one and I couldn't adjust the lazer to the left enough to put it in the center. I called CT and they told me that a lot of left handed folks have troubles with J-Frames and their grip.

I traded that one for my S&W M&P 40 and I never looked back.

Being left handed and having Bear Paws does not work out (for me) to be able to shoot a small gun.

If I was going to go with a revolver I would look at a mid. frame S&W or a Ruger GP100 ruger.com/gp100 . I'd also think about getting a 327 Federal Magnum ( I like the sounds of that round, but I would most likely buy it in 38/357).

If I was going with a pistol I would look at the Ruger LC9-CT ( I would have to buy the model 3200 LC9 as the model 3212 with the CT is not MASS OKed yet, than just buy the CT after) or a S&W Body Guard, or the new S&W Shield.

But I still like my S&W M&P 40c and S&W M&P 40 FS.

I'm thinking right now that I'm going to buy one of the new S&W Shields in 40S&W, the trouble is the Shield will not be available in MASS till June and then it will most likely be the 9mm with the 40 coming later.

Thanks, I have an M&p 9mm, which is a great gun. I just started carrying, and the only thing I can say about carrying the mp9 is it feels huge right now, especially iWb, and I haven't found a comfortable way to carry it...

I got a nice custom 60-14 with non fluted chambers, which seems like Rick moranis got a hold of my 686 and shrunk it. Hoping to take it to the range today.

.

I carryed my FS 40 all the time, when MASS OKed the S&W M&P 40 compact I bought it and it is now my daily carry gun.

I'm 6'3" 260 Lb's (280 coming out of winter [wink] ) . As I said I carry it all the time and it felt funny at 1st, but I can conceal it real easy, some light colored tighter fitting tee shirts give trouble now and then, but if I'm feeling fat that day [laugh] I just don't wear that tee shirt.

I have never cared for carrying IWB, I have two holsters that I like out of the ones I've tryed, one is from a company I will not deal with anylonger and one is the Galco King Tuk

//www.usgalco.com/KT

It's Galco's answer to the Cross Breed, I like it for a IWB Holster, but I don't have to carry IWB much, and a tuckable IWB holster even less.

I carry with a High Noon Holster and one of their Rock Steady Belts.

I like OWB Holsters with thumb breaks, this is what I carry:

Or you can get the Open Top Holster:

www.highnoonholsters.com/_Slide_Guard/

This is their IWB Holsters that are real nice and they have Tuckable ones also:

This is their RS Belt:

Take a look here for some real good deals on "Close Out / Sale Items:

www.highnoonholsters.com/Close_Outs/

This will give you an idea about how the gun carrys (see attachment) , as I said I carry all the time and I don't even feel it there.

Hope this helps, Good luck [thumbsup]

I had the unfortunate experience of buying a J-frame a couple years ago. It just felt horrible in my ape hands. When I went to replace it I looked at the LCP and found it still small and couldn't get a feel for it. Picked up and SR9c and have been quite happy. It's enough grip to shoot comfortably and accurately and small enough to easily conceal IWB. I find because small guns' grips are miniscule, I prefer a 9mm for shoot ability. It is far less snappy than my G27 or the 38spl j-frame. I'm 6' 215 lbs with broad shoulders so concealing a full size isn't much of an issue other than in summer months when I prefer a compact.
