Ive been shooting Trap since I turned 12 and have been a member there for many years. With all these gun club threads starting recently, I was just wondering how many others on here are fellow members?

I'm a member there, and on the board. Let me know if you have questions.

Club website, not fully up to date. http://www.somersetsportsmansclub.org/main.htm

Two trap fields, one lit. Shoot Tue, Thur nights, 6-8PM. Wed afternoons, around 1PM, Saturday around 12:30, Sunday 10AM. $2.50/round member, $3 non-member. We have a large polebarn now with the whole front half to sit inside out of the weather, and is heated.

Baker Road, Swansea. Almost 200 acres. Member hunting. Ranges, can bring one guest. Release some pheasants, working on getting this better.

Run some safety courses, one person does it.

Clubhouse and meeting room, can seat up to about 130 people.

Ranges, 25, 50, 100, 200, 300, all paper targets. Benches, not covered. Trailer there to store targets and stands.

$100/yr. $50 initiation and $25 legal fund the first year. First year members must do 10 hours of work signed for by officers. Applications handed out by officers.

This is the reason why I didn't join this club and others like it when I was looking for a place to join. Isn't taking my money good enough? I have to do "community" service too?

Good point. All I can say is most clubs want members to do something, including new members.

I will give you some background then explain the situation. Many clubs have to depend on work parties, members taking things on by themselves, or hiring the help. Most clubs end up with the same core group doing some functions. The more members do some of the basic work the less they have to spend on contractors or vendors. Getting more help also speeds up projects.

Some clubs make members do hours each year, some get a discount if they do. Others depend on who helps out each year for each reason. Some even have caretakers.

Somerset asks new members to put 10 hours in the first year to get things done. There are many ways to do it and 10 hours isn't a lot.

Though clubs are looking for members each can decide what they want from members. Somerset has set an achievable hurdle, but it isn't for everyone.

Some clubs have complicated orientations, some require NRA membership, GOAL, etc.

In a nut shell, having a member put in some hours is supposed to avoid spending money paying for the work, over-working other members, and perhaps avoiding increased membership costs to all.

What club did you join, if you don't mind mentioning it.
