I plan on using my sweet 16 for birds this year so I dug out my old H&R single shot 16ga to use as a backup. I'm not making the mistake I made last year of hunting with multiple gauges and wind up in the woods with only 2 of the right shells in my pocket, so I'm keeping everything 16.
I checked the action (tight as a vault), checked the bore (bright and shiny) and remarked to myself how good it looks for a crappy day beater that's close to 30 years old. Case colors super bright, no dings in the stock, forend in decent shape. Nice.
I brought it into the garage to put with my gear to stow in the truck later. And proceeded to drop the effing thing right on the toe of the stock, and watch a two inch thick sliver spin off under the wife's minivan!
This is why I don't buy nice things - I can even eff up a flipping Topper!
On the bright side, I've got a 20gauge Topper that the screw broke off the barrel, so I was able to do a quick fix by swapping recievers and I'm back in business with one decent 16ga and one totally busted 20.
Sigh....
