On the 16 yard line, shootin' for the Lewis!
Why was there ammo in the gun, in a store? Was it a package deal?

Does not pass the smell test. What gun store keeps loaded guns on display? Who would think shooting someone in the face with a BB gun would be a prank? (As a kid I was accidentally shot in the face by a CO2 BB gun. Hit my nose 1 1/2 inches from my eye and angled up to right under my eye. Had to have a ENT specialist remove it, spent 3 days in the hospital. A little bit up and over and I’d have lost the eye.) And he owns a gun shop but can’t tell the difference between a BB gun and a real one?

Whitley is a retired major in the South Carolina National Guard and former reserve deputy for the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, The Post and Courier reported.

Mrgan, 36, was a former member of the Army Special Forces, according to the newspaper.

So I have this odd theory that sometimes murders are disguised as contrived accidents. The victim gets dead and the perp gets a light or no prison sentence.

This is a good deal for the perp compared to the black and white proposition of committing an overt murder where there is a risk you will be caught.

Exactly. Not only did he not grab the BB gun (LOLZ!) but grabbed a freaking loaded one instead?!?
When I lived in Rochester, NY I noticed one gun in the display that was loaded and mentioned it to the owner. He told that was intentional and was his extra grab gun (he wore one as well) in case he needed a loaded gun quickly.

Terminally stupid, like whatever happened to like going to the guys house and leaving an upper decker, or throwing his keys on the
roof, or even banging his wife?

The document stated Whitley’s actions were unintentional, but also described them as “reckless” and a “departure from common firearm safety practices.”

Berkeley County deputies spent the 27 days since Mrgan’s death investigating the shooting, ultimately obtaining video footage from Whitley’s store, Crumley said.

The article describes the guy as: "Whitley, “a firearms expert,”" Is he one of the experts that the cops go to when they find an "arsenal" in some citizen's home? I'd bet he IS an expert at pricing merchandise LOL.
