Been looking for a shotgun for a while and I was planning on a 500 or 870, I saw this at Cabela's for a steal and fell in love. Stevens 620 is a pump action of our Patron Saint, John Moses Browning's design. While it may not chamber 3 inch loads or have a lot (or any) aftermarket options, it's much like any other pumpgun save for the fact that it's a takedown. The reciever and barrel/magazine assembly are joined via milled ridges and tension from the magazine tube. The gun has a 28 inch barrel which is fine for the field but not for the home. I'd like to get an additional barrel to cut down to a suitable combat length for the gun but seeing how there was much more hand fitting in gun manufacturing when this was made I'm worried a barrel from another gun won't match up. Anyone have experience with production takedowns and older designs that could maybe tell me if this is a worthwhile endeavor or should I just keep it a hunting gun?

If you can get a new barrel, it's an easy swap. I have the 520, which is the same, but with an A5 looking humpback. I got a new barrel, cut it to 19 inches and did a terrible job with the front sight. It's ugly but functional as a backup for me. Packs down to two two foot sections.
Get a new barrel and cut it down, won't be any problem or hand fitting, it just looks that way due to JMBs magic.

My buddy took some time and turned his 620 into a replica trench gun. He found his barrel in a corner of a gun shop in Brockton Years ago.
