I'm interested in the G26, the 9mm and the G30, the .45 auto. I don't know anyone with either, and while I like the size I'm wondering if they are so small that the convenience is countered by the short barrel and stubby grip? My initial inclination was to get a G19 and be done with it, but these have caught my eye. I don't own any Glocks right now, I used to have a G17 which was a great firearm, but I had convinced myself the grip angle was wrong for me, when in truth I really needed to practice and become a better shooter. [wink]

People say you can adjust and get used to a subcompact Glock, and I figure that since I have learned to shoot my 642 at least reasonably well I can learn these platforms....

Search revealed almost too much and too wide a range of information really. I'm interested in anecdotal stories of how you found it to be at first and if it was tough to get used, etc. And yes, I'm looking for some to try out at some point. All that said I still might go for the G19.

Thanks for any advice or suggestions.

For a all round general purpose hand gun it's hard to beat a glock 19.

As far as a 26 would make a great carry gun and is a cake walk to shoot compared to the 642

thanks. I'm guessing my preference for my 1911 over my P226 is a meaningless comparison here when looking at G26 vs. G30 since they are 3 wildly different sizes/firing mechanisms, and that probably has more to do with it than caliber.

Good to know re: difficulty to learn to shoot it. The 642 was tough to drill into my brain.

My G26 is a pleasure to shoot. You are welcome to try it out if you live close enough. Great carry option. The G30 is also a great gun but a lot thicker in the slide.

If I lived in a free state I would own a G19, G17 and a G30.

Good point! This would eventually be a carry gun, when I had enough time with it, so the thickness of the slide is a factor.
I'm in Plymouth, not sure if that's close or not.

You are a couple of towns away. PM me!

G19 or G26, or both..... I have both and like both. I'm carrying the G26 more often though, but that's only because I still haven't bought another blade tech IWB for my G19.

Do you find the G19 to be large enough that it would prohibit you from carrying it in the warmer weather? I'm not averse to carrying larger guns but comfort is a factor as well I guess.

For me, the Glock 26 doesn't work that well. It is too fat for a pocket gun and if I'm going to carry it on a belt, I could just as easily conceal a Glock 19, which is easier to shoot. I suppose a Glock 19 might work for ankle carry, but that isn't a mode of carry I've tried.

My vote is for the 19.

For many years a G19 was a summer carry gun. The only real difference between carrying the 19 and the 26 is the 26 is a tiny bit easier to conceal because the butt of the gun isn't as long, and its slightly lighter, but it's not dramatic. The 19 can still be carried pretty easily, IMO.

I have a G30, 23 and 33.

The 23 was my first, bought in 95, carried it all the time. I have thousands if rounds thru it. The 30 is my winter carry piece, I was carrying it weekends and a 442 during work.

I've switched it all to the 33. Compact, controllable, and a great round. Best is, I can get a .40 or 9 barrel for $100 and have another gun!

New round for me, never actually tried that one.

I just picked up a glock 27 the other day, and I love it much more than my old glock 22. For some reason I feel I can control it better than the full size pistol. Most likely thats just my imagination. I was initially worried about shooting 40 cal with such a small gun, but it's a breeze!! Its also a pleasure to carry!

+ a million for subcompacts!

i carry the 19 in a Comptac spartan IWB and it is comfortable and concealable in just a t shirt IMO. size wise it is only marginally bigger than the m&p compact and many carry that IWB without an issue.

I have a Glock30 that I have had for years. It is great and I use an IWB holster.

See, I've fired compact 9mm before but only full size 1911's for .45, this one is on the list to check out before I commit to G26 or G19.

I fired a Glock 30 side by side with my full size, stainless Kimber. I found that the Glock had surprisingly little recoil -- similar to my Kimber. The only negative I had to say about the Glock 30 was the possibility of pinching your fingers while seating a magazine. Well, that and the usual Glock trigger and crappy sights, but the sights can be easily fixed and the Glock trigger is what it is.

G26 G30
length- 6.29in. 6.77in.
height- 4.17in. 4.76in.
width- 1.18in. 1.27in.
weight- 19.75oz. 23.99oz.

Despite the similar numbers. I find the 26 much smaller, controllable, concealable & surprsingly accurate.
Most people who lean twards one or the other is caliber.
For carry, folks seem to favor one or the other. Some discount the 9mm for self defence. Personally I'm confident with it.

ETA: These are Gen 3 #'s. Not sure of the Gen 4's. Also the weights are empty with no mag.
oops & the removal of one much.

I'm fine with 9mm. I saw those numbers on the Glock website, but I think I need to hold them in my hand.

G19 is more pleasant to shoot and will see more range time than the G26.

that depends on your hand size, for me with skinny long fingers, i can get a full grip on the 26 as if it were a 19. with the flat floorplate.

both i think shoot about the same for me, you are welcome to come shoot my 26, if you can stand a pink slide back cover :)

i also think for me the 26 is easier to conceal

I think the 26 feels a lot smaller than the 30. Since they both hold 10 rounds, why not have 10 rounds of .45 rather than 10 rounds of 9x19? If the 19 is an option, then you have a decision to make. I personally have no issues concealing my 30. If I have on a t-shirt, it prints a bit but you would have to be looking for it and know what you were looking for. With a sweatshirt it is impossible to tell. I am 5' 11" and weigh about 200. It is worth it for a good IWB holster.

I'll add that a 19 may be in my future, since I don't currently own a 9mm. Either that or a 92FS.

I concealed a 29 in a DeSantis with just a t-shirt, even being a compact 10mm it was comfortable, easy, and fun to shoot. Tougher to get in this Commonwealth but size is similar to the 30.

The Commiewealth does put a point in the G26/19 column, at least I think so in terms of pre-ban anything, those seem more available than other calibers.
