This is open to free state models

I'm looking for suggestions for a single stack 9mm for EDC purposes - Does not need to be compact but can't hurt either.

9mm - because that's the standard round of the house - so to speak, Sam Adams aside.

This will be an OWB concealed carry use.

There's a lot of questions I know:
Why not a J frame, etc. It's not my parameters - I'm trying to the question posed to me.
I'm thinking
single stack Sigs in the used category
M&P Shield - solid possibility
and other suggestions - semi-auto, 9mm, single stack flavors

.40 is RIGHT OUT!

Thanks All

Walther PPS, although I've heard bad things about their customer service and warranty repair.

Various Kahr models, if you're willing to deal with their quality issues. At least some of their models seem to be engineered to tighter tolerances than what their manufacturing operation can deliver consistently. Some Kahr owners never have a problem, while others never get their guns to be reliable.

HK P7 and variants: oldie but goodie. You are either fanatic about it or not.

Walther PPS and Sig P938: don't own either but like how they fit

I'm trying to open up the parameters to other options - possibly M&Pc

For the original parameters, XDs 9mm, I live my .45, and can't imagine the 9mm is any worse.

Since you opened it up to compact double stacks, consider the Ruger SR9C. I carried one everyday before I got my XDs, and while it's a little fatter, it's rounded edges/corners hide pretty well either iwb or owb.

P7 - HA! Out of budget...

I'm liking the old school approach of the P7 though - any 3rd Gen S&W maybe?

M&P9c is double-stack. Lots of good double stackers out there.

I still find HK P7 PSPs can be had as low as $750 (seen on ar15.com), if you are patient enough. Incoming FFL can be a challenge but not insurmountable (not in the scope of this discussion).

S&w shield or compact 9. Both great EEC conceal guns. The shield is small in a NAND hand but still bigger than an LC9. I think the compact is a perfect size/style/function.

It's not really open to double stack yet - he's leaning towards a 380 Mustang/1911 type - he's going smaller thinking conceal is all about overall size.

If the fat fawker would admit he needs new pants and bought one size up to accommodate IWB this would all go away but Noooooooooo - he's gotta be "That Guy" and mehmehmeh meh meh meh meh crap. Because the advice given goes in one side and out the other.

That said, he's solid and I gotta try to point him in a good direction. I appreciate All who have given advice and will pass it on to him for final decision - fortunately time is not pressing.
Cheers,
Sprocket

Kimber Pro Aegis II, for style points. Smith 3913 for a sub-$400 option.

SigSauer P239. I'm wearing it more and more and wearing my P226 less and less.

Carried my 239 OWB for a year and sometimes forgot it was there. Broken in leather holster and it's very comfortable.

Smith 3913 is a great suggestion too. Shields are inexpensive and get the job done too.

For EDC, I'd go with a Kahr K9 or P9. It is remarkably slim and much easier to carry than the P239 (I have both).

Springfield EMP 9mm. love mine

Kahr makes a whole line of great single stack, striker-fired, 9mm pistols.

If you want a used Sig, take a look at the P225 or it's military / police cousin the P6. Good (internal) condition police trade-in P6's are available pretty cheap, but you may need to have the feed ramp re-profiled to reliably feed hollow point ammo. Of course there's the Sig P938 if you want something more compact.
