Good afternoon all. I looking to find out some information about Sunset Mountain Fish & Game Club located in Canterbury, NH. I am looking for a club in the Concord, NH area that is currently accepting new members and has a 200+ yard outdoor rifle range and this place appears to fit the bill. If anyone has any information on it I would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. Also, if anyone knows about any other club in this area please let me know! Thanks much.

I joined Sunset Mountain right after some nutcase shot up an elementary school in Stockton, CA. Both places I had used for target shooting at the time happened to be sand berms located behind elementary schools, so I had to join somewhere. I was a member for many years while I still lived up in the Lakes Region. When I moved down to a border town in the southern tier I let my membership lapse.

It was a great club and pretty laid back and had at least 20 outdoor covered shooting stations plus open stations. They have target holders at 25, 50 & 100 yards and a long range with berms at 100, 200, 300 & 500 yards (there is a big dip where a 400 yard berm would go). I spent many sessions shooting at the 300 & 500 yard ranges. They also have an indoor range which I never used and an area set aside for archery. They also had a trap house with a pigeon thrower for those who like shotguns. I think they had just instituted a membership cap when I stopped being a member and may have a waiting list. I can't recall whether new members needed a sponsor. If I hadn't moved, I would still be a member.

I am currently trying to get in there since it's 8 minutes from home and hell, why not?

Heres the deal:

They do have a membership cap and a waiting list. I am on the list, but way down since I just applied in early jan. They wait for the deadline for renewals passes, then fill any openings with those on the list in the order of the application date.

At the March meeting they will begin to go down the list and see who is at the meeting - if you or your sponsor isn't there to speak up for you you don't get in. Once all the slots are filled they stop, then do a new member orientation.

Up till this year they have been "carrying over" apps from year to year. Starting at this meeting they will be tossing the old apps and anyone wanting to get on the list needs to re-apply.

I will be at the March meeting, but don't expect to get in based on what I have heard about the number of new member apps vs renewal rate. I will have my new member app filled out and there to submit again.

They do have a 50' indoor pistol range, 5 lanes, lead only (no jacked or platted), no 10mm or Magnum loads. The hold Bullseye pistol shoots there, then outside when the weather gets better.

I just started shooting Bullseye. I really, really suck at it, but am having fun.
