Has anyone ever have a SRH shear off a front sight? I was at the range yesterday with my SRH in 454. I replaced the front sight with one of the blades that Ruger sells as a replacement that are in various colors and are made of a fiberglass composite.
One of the shooters was admireing the revolver and I offered to let him try it out with some heavy 45 Colt loads. He accepted and I let him fire 5 rounds which he got a kick out of. I place the gun back in my carrying case and went back to shooting my cap and ball revolver. A short while later I changed over to the SRH,loaded 5 rounds and went to fire and no front sight. as far as I can tell the recoil sheared the front sight off and pokeing around I found what was left of the sight. It sheared the hook off that is underneath the sight base. Now I have the same sight in white that has held up well on the same gun so I'm thinking defective part?
