I'm putting together a LTR for the upcoming Athol event, I got my Tech Sights installed yesterday and adjusted today.

This afternoon I went looking for some sling swivels and wasn't sure what to get. I was looking for the 1 1/4 inch, but all the Uncle Mike's packages directly referenced they were for wood stocks. Should I just ignore this and get the appropriate one for a wood stock? I looked on NES and on the appleseedinfo.org sight and couldn't find this info. I did find on appleseedinfo a reference to Uncle Mike's part number 10013, but at the store it said it was for a wood stock. I hope I'm not over thinking this, but I don't want to mess up my stock needlessly.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I saw that thread too. I have a synthetic stock.

I bought the screws and mounts along with the sling.

I do not have any tools so I got help from my cousin to install the mounts.

The butt cover can be removed with a thin flat screw driver, that way you can use the nut with red lock tite on the screw inside the butt of the stock. He carefully drilled a hole for the screw and screwed it in. The white colored washer was not used on the outside because I didn't want it to stand out. Inside the hallow butt, the washer was used and the nut screwed in with lock tite. I didn't want the screw to be very tight so it can move a bit when the sling is on.

The remaining screw (the one with the sharp ridges) is for the part of the stock at the muzzle end. It should go below the bracket that hold the barrel in place. I decided to have it about 2 inches below so that the mount would lie flat if I wanted.

That screw would end up hitting the barrel if you screwed it in. I knew that from the thread and I believe that happened to Dwarven1. So... the screw had to have a small piece sawed off and then filed down by putting it in a drill press. When you drill the pilot hole, the bit must be smaller than the diameter of the screw and it's ridges so it can have something to screw into. One of those bit measuring templates will help you find the right size. Remember to run your drill slow as not to melt the plastic.

Once done with the screws are in, put on the mounts. I bought a black M1 sling. The buckle for the sling was VERY difficult to get on the front mount and needed to be widened a bit. This can be done by using a large screwdriver.

This is not a hard job but you need proper tools. You need a vice and wood blocks to hold the rifle. If you are going to do it yourself, you should have help to hold stuff steady.
