I am looking for opinions of SE Mass shooters who have shot at the Taunton and Somerset clubs. I need a new shooting home and live in the Westville section of Taunton. My interests are rifle and pistol shooting. Specifically, I am looking for opinions of those who have shot at both clubs and can compare them. I have searched for and read many of the prior posts regarding these clubs. It is apparent that both clubs are nice, but I could not find any direct comparisons. I realize that both clubs will have their strengths and weaknesses. I have specific concerns whether Taunton's split ranges are much of a problem and if Somerset's lack of indoor facilities is much of a problem. Background: I actually prefer to shoot outdoors, so Somerset's lack of indoor ranges may not really be a problem for me. The Somerset club is very close to me anyway, so I have no preference between the clubs due to proximity. I have only visited the Somerset club in the past (while taking a hunter safety course a few years ago with my son). Thanks for any input.

I am not a member of the Taunton Rifle and Pistol Club but I have shot in their new indoor range and its great. Real nice clubhouse too. The new indoor range has target carriers so you don't have to have a cease fire every time you want to change a target.

As a member of TRPC I will say it's a great place to shoot. The new indoor range is second to none and the old is still usable. The outdoor has 2 50 yard ranges, 2 100 yard ranges and 1 300 yard range. You do have to qualify before you can use the 300 yard range.

Thanks.................

.................for the responses thus far. I would appreciate your comments comparing the two clubs, if possible. Do either of these clubs hold an occasional open house?

Friday's some of the board go down to TRPC. They're there to shoot the bull and collect any applications. Though I don't believe they do an "open house". Having said that, I'd be glad to take you shootin' anytime you want to see the club. Send me a PM and we could work something out.

Will do

I'd love to get a look at the club. I'll send you a PM tonight. Thanks.

No open house at Somerset. They do a fall shooters roundup open to guests.

Trap is open to guests and can see improvements to clubhouse. New pole barn before the trap field, front room of it for those waiting to shoot trap. Two fieldls, one lit. Trap shot year round.

25, 50, 100, 200, 300 yard ranges. No plans for anything indoors. Hunting for members. Small pond.

Lot of Taunton members can fill you in.

I am also interested in the Taunton Rifle and Pistol Club. I currently live in Dartmouth but just purchased a house in Taunton and will be moving soon. Unfortunately I don't really know anyone in Taunton, never mind a member of the club. Does anyone know if there is a way around having your application sponsored or should I just contact an officer via email or something. I'm green to range organizations since this would be my first. Any info would be great. Thanks.

If you show up on Friday evenings there are board members there. I believe one of them will be your sponsor.
