I picked up the tavor 9mm conversion kit and massified the barrel with a YHM muzzle break. Here is write up on my conversion and some review at the range.
Tavor 9mm conversion is not hard task (10 mins with practice). The only gotcha is READ THE MANUAL !!!!!! As usual, my smart ass engineer mindset failed me. I started to takedown the rifle without reading. It takes me a while try to figure out the steps (1 hr), but lesson learned. Here is the conversion steps.
1. Remove BCG/Recoil assembly Group. Need punch & hammer.
2. Remove the Flattop Rail. Need a 4mm hex key
3. Remove the Front Swivel and Lock. Need a small punch to remove cotter pin.
4. Remove the Foregrip Group. Need a philips screwdriver to loose 2 screws.
5. Remove the Cocking Group.
6. Remove the Barrel Group. Use barrel removal tool (come with the 9mm conversion kit)
7. Swap the barrel.
8. Install Cocking Group, Foregrip, Front Swivel/lock, & Flattop Rail
9. Install BCG/Recoil assembly Group.
10. Install Magazine adapter. Need punch and hammer.
11. Install 9mm Brass Deflector.
NOTE : you must not jump ahead step 4 to step 5. Cocking group need to be remove before the unlock/swap the barrel.
Here is the picture after conversion.
Last night, I took the rifle and head to my local range. This range review also include the Timney Trigger pack upgrade. I choose 2 kind of 9mm ammo and use a few gay 10 rds ASC UZI mag. I used Federal 9mm NATO whitebox 124gr and CCI blazer 9mm brase case.
First round, I have timney trigger pack installed and federal 9mm. Test failed and I can't cycled more than 1 rd. I have light primer strike. The timney trigger pack with lighter hammer spring cause light primer strike. I knew this will happen so I tag along the original trigger pack. 5 mins and I got the trigger pack swapped. Timney trigger pack + 9mm conversion = no go.
Second round, 2 10rds gay UZI mag filled with federal 9mm and 1 10rds gay UZI mag filled with CCI blazer 9mm. No problem with federal 9mm. With CCI blazer, 1 instance the bolt can't cycle properly. I just need to charge the rifle again. Stock trigger pack + 9mm conversion = good to go.
Timney Trigger Pack.
Overall, I'm happy with my purchase. I'm a bit disappointing on the Timney trigger due to light primer strike, but I will try it out again when I got a chance to convert the tavor back to 223/556. The tavor trigger pull with the Timney was a huge improvement over stock. But I would expect some drawback due to lighter spring. Till next range session.
Uploading video to youtube and will post it when ready.
