I recently treated myself to a Tavor x95. I put a Meprolight reflex sight on it - the bullseye one.

Thoughts about the gun:

This is my first bullpup and I've got to say I'm a fan. It's not a precision rifle but I didn't expect it to be. I got decent accuracy at 100 yards once I got used to it. I love the ergonomics and find mag changes to be easier and faster than my AR with just a little bit of practice. The position of the bolt release makes for a very fast mag change.

I did swap out the pistol grip for one with a conventional trigger guard. I found my hand sliding behind the trigger during mag changes on the whole hand guard. Didn't like that at all? The grip was an easy swap - a single Phillips head screw.

The sight: this is my second reflex sight. I had an Eotech a few years ago. The meprolight is cheaper and doesn't require batteries which is a big plus. It holds zero well which the Eotech didn't. The field of vision on the Eotech was larger and brighter while the reticle was crisper. The meprolight bullseye is a bit thick and fuzzy. It's fine for shooting plates and it does help you acquire the target quickly but for any kind of precision it's falls short. The center dot is large and the outer ring thick so it really covers up the target making any kind of precision iffy at best. I like it but I wish I had gotten the triangle reticle instead. I use an ACOG TA 31H on my AR and the reticle is much crisper than the meprolight

Overall verdict is I love the gun and am mostly happy with the sight. If you're going to get one, get the triangle and not the bullseye.

Congrats on the X95. I just bought a NOS Tavor SAR and have to say I really love this gun. Even with a 16" barrel the overall length of the gun is pretty short (shorter than my SBR AR). Although the gun is a little heavier than a standard AR, most of the weight is at the rear, which makes sholdering the rifle very pleasant. Probably shoot this gun better offhand than any other rifle I own. If I take another carbine/defensive rifle course, this would be the gun I would bring.

Haven't really done any formal accuracy testing, other than initial sighting in, but I think even with Wolf Gold or other plinking ammo it will be a 2 MOA gun - more than accurate enough for it's intended use.

I put a Primary Arms 3X on mine, which I've been very happy with. Was able to regularly hit a 1' x 2' piece of steel at 300 yards, which is all the accuracy I really need out of this gun.

One word of warning, the stock trigger on the Tavor is pretty awful. (I think the x95 is supposed to be a little better). Since I just can't stand a crappy trigger, I bought an aftermarket trigger to replace it. Expensive, but IMHO well worth it.

And one final point - for those of us in Mass. the Tavor is not effected by Maura's asinine interpretation of the AWB. It is still legal to transfer these guns to the oppressed citizens of Mass. (providing the deadly flash hider is removed).

Congrats, Bob. Thanks for letting me shoot your new toy!

It just feels so comfortable! It's easy to maneuver around. The trigger is a bit gritty but I suspect that will wear in too.

Very cool toy, my friend!
