ill start by saying im a very good shot and i have lots of trigger time. i cant group my 1911 worth a damn. im researching and the best i can come up with is that my barrel to bushing fit sucks. with the gun disassembled, holding the bushing in one hand and the barrel in the other, theres a lot of slop in the fit. i can move the barrel all around with the bushing in place. is this normal? shouldnt this be almost a press fit? its really sloppy

You have to remember that the bushing is fit to the barrel at an angle. The bushing itself is installed in the slide at an angle because the barrel drops down when the slide moves to the rear. When the slide returns to battery, the lower lugs push the barrel up into engagement with the slide. At this point the barrel is not concentric with the bushing, but rather pushed up away from the center line of the bushing. When you check bushing to barrel fit they should be in the position they assume when the slide/barrel are in battery.
